1  Re: Post Photos of Your Tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by beezus71 on: March 13, 2008 10:26:39 AM
last time I posted a full body photo of myself I got some requests for better pics. Every time  I think about it- there is noone 'round to take photos- so here are a few I took myself.

I am thinking about joining the tattoo swap- sounds super fun! It would be my first. The send date coincides with my finals though- so i have to ponder a bit longer.

On with the photos:

This is my right arm. Mostly an amalgam of illustrations by the 19th cen. artist- Kyosai. My absolute favorite.

My lft leg. A chinese dolly, persimmons, and some peonys thathave japanese opera masks in them. These I designed myself.
I am pretty well covered already , but I am thinking of some yoshitomo nara dogs, and as many more rabbits as I can fit (I have 4 so far, along with a bat, a mole, a raccoon, 2 frogs, 2 tigers- and a mouse pulling a cat in a rickshaw!)

Next time I think to get someone else to photograph places I can't reach- I'll post again.

Good day!

2  embroidered pillow in Needlework: Completed Projects by beezus71 on: March 10, 2008 08:01:51 AM
This is a pillow I made for my mother for her bday. She is really into meditation ( has been since I was in HS, 15 yrs), and is an avid reader of books by the vietnamese buddist monk, Thich Naht Hahn. He illustrates his books with beautiful calligraphy that incoporate his philosophies. So, I made a patchwork pillow- then added a panel that I had embroidered with one of these illustrations. It says "peace is every step"

Sorry for the bad photos. I really need a new digi camera.

Thanks for looking.

3  needlepoint repros of collective paintings- pic heavy in Needlework: Completed Projects by beezus71 on: March 09, 2008 08:56:05 AM
In the city where I live there are several "art collectives"- where people get together regularly and make art together. I take part in one of these. Since my love of craft is equal to my love of art (and part of the groups manifesto is that is really ALL art anyway...)- I took small parts of different paintings and reproduced them in needlepoint. When we showed, my pieces were dispalyed alongside of the paintings. They were mounted on wood to be hung. They got a great response and most actually sold. Luckily- I got photos of most.

Thanks for looking- have a nice Sunday.

This one is called "brothers." It was the most popular. So much so that I ended up reproducing it twice more to sell.

This one is "butter." It is my favorite, mostly because of all the work I put into it.

This is "urinal." It is made from a photo of a urinal that one of the collective members painted on a nightclub wall next to a real urinal.(The group was in the club painting the backdrops for a play that was being put on there- the urinal eventually was painted over. boohoo)

This is a embroidery of the collectives 'mascot'- fleshy the elephant. Yes, he resembles male anatomy, but cute nonetheless.

Again, thanks for looking.

4  Re: Two Hats in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by beezus71 on: March 04, 2008 01:04:29 PM
I loved that first hat so much- I downloaded the pattern and made my own! I always feel like I have a huge head, so I added an extra panel and of course now it is too big (hence no action shot)- I'm going to trek to the $ store this afternoon and get some blk elastic, put a strip in the back so it will fit.

Anyway- thanks for posting. I never would have known I could make a hat otherwise.

The front. I did change it up a litle bit from the pattern.

side view. I used some vintage buttons I had lying around.

Thanks for looking.

These are most of my tattoos. Weird, I don't really have many photos of them. Most of the time I even forget I have them. I started when i was 15- and I am 36 now, so they are really just a part of me now. When I'm at say, Hobby Lobby and someone is staring- I start thinking I need to blow my nose or something.

They are mostly in the Japanese tradition- many taken from Kyosai paintings. I do have a few trad "americana" pieces"- a Marvin gaye tribute on the back of my knee- and "Deeds not words" w/stars on the back of my neck. (Everyone needs a creed, right?)

Have a wonderful sunday

6  Chinese New Year quilted banner- year of the rat. (3 photos) in Needlework: Completed Projects by beezus71 on: February 15, 2008 07:36:55 AM
This is my first ever post. I made this as a decoration for my meditation groups NY celebration.

I am so inspired by everything I see here. It has really gotten me off my duff and creating again. I am working towards a Masters- but whatever time I have left over after school work is pretty much devoted to making something or other. So, I'm sure this won't be the last you'll hear from me.

Thanks for looking- have a great weekend!

This is a close up of the stitch work. My camera is crummy, so forgive poor photo quality.

This is the quilting on the reverse- recycled denim skirt. I try to use what I have around the house as much a possible- instead of buying new. Partly out of principle, partly because I'm a penny-pincher.

Again, thanks for looking! Grin
