4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Hysterectomy Party (first post!) on: December 24, 2008 01:28:13 PM
So, at the urging of my mother (laughing sister) I am going to make my first post about a party that I threw for myself, and a bit of a story to go with...I will try not to drag it out too much! lol

I went in for a pap, for the first time in 4 years, the results came back abnormal. After further testing (Im sure some of you know all about this one. Ouch!) I was told that I had late stage cervical dysplasia. After some time and thought, I decided to have a hysterectomy. It was my choice, but not an easy one to make. Even though it was the best decision for myself and my family, it was still scary and difficult to face at times. SO....I threw a party!
What better way to usher in the next stage of my life as a woman, than to have a party, where I could be surrounded by all the women that love and care for me. So I did. I invited all my ladies, of all ages and walks of life, to join me in sharing an evening with fabulous women and great wine. (red of course!)
There was a red theme to the party... red invitations, red wine, red bowls filled with red candy, chocolate covered cherries fresh from the candy store. The party favors included, wine glasses that I had etched a lotus blossom onto, fertility goddess style pendants that I strung onto black cord, a small glass star (everyone needs a star to wish on  Wink) and I made red chiffon scarves. I provided the red wine, but asked that everyone bring their favorite drink or dish to share. I set up tea lights all over the house, and on the steps outside, put on awesome music.... and we were ready to go!
It was a wonderful night! It was everything I needed and more =) With the love and support of the women in my life, I was ready for my surgery a few days later.
No one took any pictures that night, and that is fine with me....pictures couldnt compare to the memories anyway. Though I have no pictures to show you of the evening, I do have pictures of the things that I crafted =) so here goes!

Thanks for reading Smiley This was a great moment in my life, and I am happy to be able to share it.
