After you sewed on all those leaves, was there much stretch to your separates?

Yes and I no. I stretch the pieces over a big pillow and sewed the leaves on, so that helped. It still took some of the stretch out though. If I had more time, looking back, I'd probably not sew the leaves intot he other leaves at much so they have more movement.

Super awesome! Love the hair too. What did you use to color the tights?

Thank you everyone!! They did end up canceling it...but there will be others!

I'm actually wearing two pair of tights, lol! I dyed them with koolaid and food coloring...it was so easy!

I have had a major girl crush on Poison Ivy since I first read about her. I don't really know why I like her so much..but...being the ridiculous comic book nerd that I am...I'm cool with it Cheesy So my husband surprised me with tickets to Boston Comic Con this weekend and I almost cried I was so excited...I've always wanted to go to a convention! Since we were crunched for time, and I was in charge of making both of our costumes, I picked Ivy because hers is very straightforward, and spent about 3 days sewing leaves like mad onto the body suit I made. I also dyed my tights because I couldn't find any in the color I wanted. I'll upload more pictures after the con, but I snapped a few really quick because I couldn't wait to share! Cheesy

Weird shot, I know, but I ended up making the bodysuit in two pieces, a top and a bottom, because I didn't relish the idea of wriggling out of the whole thing every time I had to use the restroom lol!

Communing with nature Smiley

I also made my husband's Robin costume. He wanted a toned down, not super floofy costume, so we kinda went for the steampunk vibe.

Due to the horrific and unbelievably devastating events that took place this week in Boston, the Con may end up being called off, but I wanted to show you guys my progress! Thanks for looking!

I know I'm kinda late on the bandwagon for this thread, but I finally get to post our big day pictures after loving all of yours! Cheesy

We got married in a local team room called Emma's. My mom took me there for lunch one day and I walked in, and told her, 'I want to get married in here!!' It so cute and small and delightful!

It was so wonderful...and the day after Christmas too! Cheesy

What a cool idea! And so bright and cheerful and colorful!  I really like the filler 'flower' fabric bits too, how did you do those?  Congratulations on your wedding, and those are very sweet pictures Smiley  I'm sure your bouquet will be a happy reminder for a VERY long time!

thank you so much! The colored/patterned filler flowers I found at Hobby Lobby in bunches Cheesy

I recently got married to my most bestest friend...and just for the record, being married is like the most awesome thing EVER. I knew from the get-go I wanted a not real flower bouquet, because I wanted to save it and it not be all dead and wilt-y. I briefly considered a brooch bouquet, but realized I had about 2 brooches to my name, and ended up settling on thread spools and buttons. I loved it so much. I feel like it was really 'me' Smiley

It was also important to me because my grandmother was the one who got me started on wanting to sew. She sewed all her life, and made half my clothes growing up. Unfortunately she passed away last year, but to honor her memory I used several old thread spools out of her sewing cabinet, as well as new ones Smiley

I also made the boutineers...

I loved how they came out...because I like bright colors...and...yellow...and happy!

19  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Dying Tights/Pantyhose (for cosplay or personal fun!) :D on: April 08, 2013 12:56:10 PM
So my awesomesauce husband is taking me to Boston ComicCon this month! This will be my first con and also my first time cosplaying and I'm super excited! I'm going as Poison Ivy (kinda vanilla, but she's always been my favorite!) and I could not, for the life of me find green tights. This lead to an internet search to see if you could, indeed, dye your own tights. I didn't find a whole lot but what I did see was most people use Kool-aid or food coloring. So I tried both!

I started with these, which I dyed with Kool-aid. Just your regular sheer nude pantyhose. I kinds just threw a bunch of green and yellow and blue Kool-aid in some boiling water and stirred it til I liked the color.

...and after!

They came out kinda army green/olive-y from mostly lemon-lime Koolaid and half a pack of lemon & blue raspberry. I love it!

As for the food colored ones, I started out with yellow opaque tights. Half priced at Target booyah!

...and after!

I stirred both pair religiously, but the opaque pair still came out a skeesh marbled. I actually rather like them that way, but you really can't tell that much when they are on. Its easier to see when they are hanging up.

It was so super easy and I'm stoked to wear them!
