21  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / first (wall) quilt ever! applique & machine pieced on: March 04, 2008 08:27:54 PM
what do you all think? i found a vintage quilting book at a garage sale & mixed up a few different aspects  of different block patterns.  i double stitched everything, there is a cotton backing, & a heavy weight piece of cotton in the middle.
....i'm still debating as to whether i should hand quilt on top of the shapes...... i am completely new to the quilting scene ( i generally create apparel & accessories) & i do not know very much about the quilting part of the process.    any suggestions? feedback would be most appreciated.  Smiley

22  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Itching for SPRING? Try this its fun ------>Forced Blooms on: February 20, 2008 07:26:20 PM
i saw "martha" do this on her show last winter with pussy willow tree cuttings.  you take a cutting during the tree's dormancy and forced the budding blooms to come out early......here is a link to her project http://www.marthastewart.com/article/how-to-force-branches

in my case i did not follow her directions to a T.  i actually found some random tree trimming on the side of the road & brought a handful of branches home.  i re-cut the ends to open up the stem & threw them in an old oj container (rinsed & thoroughly cleaned of course!) with some water.  then after about a week they began to bloom.....here is the kicker ****my bf got me some flowers for valentine's day & it came with some blooming powder so we dumped it in the water.  boy oh boy did things take off from there!!!! thought i am confident the blooms would have came without the powder.....it just would have taken a little longer.

enjoy my results & i hope it brightens your winter day!

this is what they looked like after about a week & a half in the water...no bloom powder yet

23  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / 1st POST--curly fabulous EaSy hand towel rack wire coat hangers (LOTS OF PICS) on: February 20, 2008 06:53:43 PM
hello all of you in the crafster world!! i have been admiring all of everyone's work & decieded it
was high time i shared too!  Grin

when i bought my house this summer, there were all those boring metal towel racks that seemed very hotel-esque.  so i got to brain storming & figured I could use some the huge stock supply of metal coat hangers in my possession....... i love to use recyclables for crafts!!!

this process was very simple.   It was quite easy to shape the bottom part with my hands. i used standard hand pliers (**i also tried it with some other tool but i have no idea what its called so i included a pic) to swirl the ends up so they wouldn't be sharp and dangerous--- this will work fine if you don't have pliers)

the top part has two solid loops that made O's which are fed through on some hooks i found in the house from there i made to J like shapes facing away from the wall & curled up to make a place for the actual towel rack part.

the bottom piece is shaped like a small hand harp or an extra pretty U shape with curls at the top.  I added a loop on either side just for fun.

thank you for checking this out, i hope you make a hand towel rack for your home too!
