2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Apron from Jeans Pantleg on: April 10, 2008 01:37:24 PM
I I made this apron for my Flirty Apron Swap www.flirtyapronswap.blogspot.com partner, drawing inspiration from vintage dress & apron patterns.
I had fun with the bias tape and really liked making the teardrop pockets. :-)  To make the apron, I simply cut the pant leg down the inside seam, opened the leg flat and cut an apron shape.

The paper doll dress softie I made to match the apron and sent along for my swap partner.  It was lots of fun! Smiley
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Quilted Lavender Purse on: April 10, 2008 01:29:24 PM

I sewed this purse based off of Vintage Ric-Rac's 1 Hour Bag. http://vintagericrac.blogspot.com/2008/01/1-hour-bag-tutorial.html

I added a lot and tried out new techniques, so it was more like 3 or 4 hours, but I'm in love with how it turned out!

If you can tell, I quilted it on my machine - first time quilting.  I added a button flap with a magnetic snap, used D-rings to attach the handle, put in custom pocket (one being a double welted pocket - also a first!), and a lanyard inside for my key ring!

I had fun learning new things and starting with this basic purse pattern was the perfect way to start a custom bag with my favorite features!

Hope you like!  Thanks!
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Shoe Box Bag on: March 10, 2008 12:51:30 PM
thats pretty cool. How does the lid stay closed when you carry it? Maybe you said and i missed it.

Thanks for the nice comments!  LoveByDesign: I thought I'd need to add some kind of hinge and closure tab, but ended up not needing anything.  The layers of fabric added for covering the box gave the lid extra snugness.  So the lid stays put without any help.  That made me happy!  Smiley
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Shoe Box Bag on: March 06, 2008 12:03:58 PM
Hi, crafters!  I'm a dancer - swing, ballroom, latin, etc. and I have special shoes I take with me to lessons and dances.  (they have suede bottoms for good spinning so I don't want to wear them outdoors)  So I wanted a nice bag to carry them with me and thought, "hmm...this box they came in is just the right size and my shoes wouldn't get smushed in the closet in here...I'm going to cover it w/ fabric, add a handle and make it a bag!"

I'm quite happy with it, most work being done with a glue gun.  I added fun stitching to the handle and with the extra thickness from the fabric held the lid on without a closure being needed.  I added a pocket for business cards (people always ask where I take lessons!), a strap inside the lid to hook on a pen and shoe cleaning brush.  Some sewing I did through the cardboard w/ my machine.  You can see where the machine foot wouldn't allow me to go, but it's good enough for me!

Hope you like it and maybe get ideas for yourself!  Thanks.  Smiley
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Flower Button Bag on: February 28, 2008 12:09:53 PM
Oh, it's so cute!  I also love the embroidered flowers with button heads.  Isn't it neat how things we first consider design flaws inspire a new addition or adjustment that totally make the creation into something wonderful?!  Love it, lprajogo!

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: TUTORIAL: Singlet Style Shopping Bag (like the plastic shopping bag) on: February 14, 2008 09:37:35 AM
Yay!  I loved your idea of using the plastic shopping bag as a pattern.  Here's some pics of my version:

I sewed a patterned panel down the front and instead of bothering with a liner, I hemmed the opening and overstitched the raw seams inside with contrasting thread to look nice.  And double stitched the bottom, although I like the idea of the french seam...I'll do that next time.

Here's a detail of the overstitching inside another bag I made:

Thanks!  Smiley

Thanks for the tutorial!  I first saw the camo purse creation from here and then really wanted to make my own!

This is my first picture post...we'll see if this works.  Oops, I don't have enough posts yet to do that.  Here's a link to My Pleated Purse in my member gallery..

Hope you like it!  After finishing I decided it needed a flower and now I'm quite happy with my bag!

Thanks again for the ideas and tut!
