2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Woody and Jessie <3 (lotsa pics!) on: November 01, 2010 11:05:33 AM
I just love making costumes and was excited when my girls decided to be Woody and Jessie from Toy Story.

I made these both for under $20, both hats were from value village and the shirts. the rest is made from foam and felt from the dollar store and stuff I already had and as a great procrastinator I started them last tuesday.

the belt buckles are foam and felt, I used the button elastic for waistbands and covered it in brown material for the belt.

the chaps and vest are from a drop cloth that i painted and serged the edges. I applied the chaps to her pants with glue gun

boots in progress, holster and belt, and of course spurs Grin  and I painted woodys hat brown

I had made a half wig attached to the hat but she couldnt stand the itch so I cut it all out and left the braid and made the band and stiched the yarn around it

these were taken before school, she wiped out on the playground that day and came home covered in mud Sad she definitly look like a cowgirl then.

the buttons are foam with glitter paint around them

and a pic i had to add woody after trick r treating.

I would like to thank my glue gun for its long hours and hard work! I managed to get through this with minor burns.
Thanks for looking
Hope everyone had a good Halloween!!
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Little Big Planet :D on: November 05, 2009 11:05:36 PM
So my 4 1/2 year old is obsessed with Little big planet and insisted on being a sack person.  I should have given myself more time but of course I made the head 4 days before and the suit halloween day.

this was at the beginning of the night when she was tired of waiting for candy Tongue
It started with this:

and went to this (with my handy pumpkin helper)

I didnt take a picture of the foam stage, I used 1/2 inch thick foam to get the shape & structure and then started with the burlap.

for the body I made pants that I put over her snow pants and then made a bodysuitish top that fit over her jacket.  It has a zippered front and I had made a big cardboard zipperpull but it didn't make it too far with her littler sister pulling on it. There are a bunch of extra peices that we are still going to make so that she can changer her costumes costume Smiley  all and all I had a happy sack person

Thanks for looking!

5  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / "Cuz a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do"..Capt Hammer on: March 14, 2009 02:48:16 PM
So my life is finally complete now that I have watched Dr. Horribles Sing along Blog.
I cannot believe that I had never heard of it until a week ago and have now watched it a million times and constantly have the songs stuck in my head.
My 4 year old loves Captain Hammer so I made her this dress and sleeves (instead of gloves).  She wasn't in the mood to model so my almost 2 year old did. (don't mind the bed head, she just woke up from her nap.)
(this is her zoolander face  Tongue)

I used 3 different shirts for this and used iron on adhesive for the hammer logo. I'm going to paint the white highlights on it later.
Thanks for looking!

8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Dora & Boots (gigantic post) on: November 03, 2008 10:47:50 AM
Hi,  Both of my girls are Dora fans so they were so happy when I finished these.  unfortunately this is the best pic of them together.

For Dora I made her shirt and longer shorts(its cold here!!!), I found a toque (beanie for all you non canadians Tongue) and stitched the yarn to it so that she could have the huge dora head.

I made backpack and map about a month ago https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=271170.msg3061191#msg3061191

Dora reading her map

I made boots from a fleece house coat.  I traced a pair of her jammies for the body, added some cream coloured flanel for the belly, I also made mits but she refused to wear them.  Her tail has a coat hanger in it and snaps to the bum so that she could go in her carseat in her costume. I made the hood by tracing one of her hoodies and added stuffed ears and boots hair. It snaps under the chin and I added long ties so that it could hold the tail up.   I like to call this picture "tragic monkey"

The boots were full footies but it was raining on halloween so I cut them open so that she wouldnt wreck it.

I had soo much fun making these costumes!!! I hope you enjoy them
thanks for looking Grin
9  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Swiper stop swiping my sewing stuff! on: October 02, 2008 11:25:30 AM
Hi,  I made this swiper costume to give my daughter something to do while I make her dora costume. She kept taking stuff off my table and I kept saying no swiping and so came the distraction costume.  It took about 45min to make. It isn't made all that well but it works and she is happily swiping toys from the toy box now. I've discovered that I really like to make costumes....or just seeing the smiles when I'm putting them on the kids.

thanks for looking!
Have a good day Grin
10  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Backpack....Backpack...Dora begins on: September 29, 2008 03:00:04 PM
I'm hoping that this is an ok spot for this. It is the beginning of my daughters Dora Halloween costume.
I made back pack by looking at a picture of him. he is made with purple flannel and his face is felt and attached with double sided iron on stuff. He was very flimsy, I tried sticking cardboard inside but it didn't work well, I found my daughters mr. potatoe head case in the toy box and it fit inside perfectly.  Map is made from beige flannel and the actual map is sharpies on plastic that I had a fun time sewing to the flannel as you will see. His face is also felt. I made the straps a bit big so that she can layer up. I havent attached his eyebrows yet, they will be the fasteners.  I will post the full costume when its done and my 1 yr olds Boots costume.
I'm so proud that it ended up as well as it did. It's hard telling my daughter that she can't play with it until after Halloween. any way on with the pics.

you go over the troll bridge, through the spooky forest to the great pumpkin patch!

(she is wearing shorts Smiley)
thanks for looking!
