3  newbie glitter magnets...warning- PIC HEAVY-LOTS OF GLITTER- with TUTE!!! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by adrenalynn on: July 04, 2008 08:00:20 AM
Hulloooooo!! so, my fellow craftsters...i have so many projects to share!! im soooo excited to be finally posting after just lurking so long. Now, i wasnt sure where to put these, but they turned out way better than i thought, and i now realize *painting* with glitter is fun!! I got this cheap sticky magnet paper, and i have an AWESOME assortment of glitter( and dont forget that powdered eye shadow works awesome too!!!)due to my resin casting so, i did kinda a homage to some of my fav. icons.... beginning with Jim Morrison to perk up my fridge a lil...

ode to misfits

mr. johnny cash

my buddies Jay and silent Bob

and this is a size comparison, so you can see how glitter-tastic it all is!!

The secret is...*drumroll* at DollarTree, they have packs of self adhesive magnetic paper. They come in many different sizes to suit your project!!! FOR JUST ON DOLLAR! All i did was use an Exacto knife to cut the parts that corresponded with the color i was applying (start with darker colors...so the lighter ones dont get tinted...) Peel up the paper covering to expose the sticky stuff, then pour on glitter and shake off excess ( im a freak about conserving,,its crazy). Usually after you apply the glitter, nothing else will stick to the surface UNLESS.... you use chunky stuff, then you would apply that last, or blend another color into the cracks...Seriously though, the possibilities are endless. I took pictures (my friends and family or magazine cutouts) and applied them by cutting out exactly the space around the edge, then decorating around with different shapes and colors of glitter.
this is a cool sparrow pic i cut out during a decoupage madness period...

a cute hardcore nurse...

and this actual glitter painting i did of a weird spaceman pic holding a spatula,,heehee

going batty...(you can see the stencil i used for the jim magnet...)

Words can be stenciled in too! it really is something for a fun rainy day project. It makes my fridge kick arse!!OH!! When i was done with all of them, i sprayed them with acrylic sealer just in case...so far they have held up fine.  My lil sis said i could totally sell them, i dunno, but I love glitter!! and they make me happy!! I hope this helps, and remember, if you cant find the magnet paper, just ask some one, sometimes its behind the counter... I HOPE THIS HELPS ALL YOU GLITTER FANATICS!!! Grin
