1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Trouble with Lace-Up back dress on: January 31, 2011 08:10:01 PM
I don't have a picture of my actual dress.. this is basically what its doing though:
(closest pic i could find of that happening). For me, my loops are much closer together, made with i think its called rattail. Basically I used this as a guide for the loops: http://couturesmith.blogspot.com/2007/06/wedding-dressthe-laced-up-back.html
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Trouble with Lace-Up back dress on: January 31, 2011 07:10:16 PM
Hi all!

A friend of mine is the president of the Harry Potter club at my college, she is hosting a "Yule Ball", and we have decided to make our own dresses. I am using this pattern: Vogue 2890 http://cdn1.iofferphoto.com/img/item/148/239/419/GLYN.jpg <<--for the image.

This is my first clothing sewing project (I've made 5 quilts, and various other little things)
So i got to the zipper, invisible zipper down the side. but I think the interfacing was too thick, because it would not zip. (I resewed it 3 times, and wouldnt go)

So I decided to sew up the side, and i cut open the back, put in loops down the back (they all touched each other, no space in between), the only trouble is when i lace it up, all the ribbon bunches up in the middle rather than neatly lacing like it should. Any ideas on how to fix this. A friend of mine mentioned buttons, but my mom said it might look too costumey.

The biggest issue is that the ball is this saturday 2/5...and i cant sew on the bottom of the dress or the flowers down the front, before I finish the rest of this bodice!   Thanks in advance! Smiley

just wow! at first I thought they were knitted, and as I read I couldn't believe how simple it seems and how intricate they end up looking! I haven't had too much luck with polymer clay, I may have to try this out though.
