32  My first attempt at crochet - ZOMBIE! (4 pics) in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by mcbenno on: July 02, 2008 10:13:32 PM
So I decided to learn to crochet after jenicat made me awesome things for the IYP swap. And this was the first thing I made! The pattern is from the Creepy Cute Crochet book, I modified it VERY slightly (made the eyelets into bulletholes because they didn't seem to serve a purpose in the original pattern...). I made it thinking about sending it to a swap partner when the FH saw it and fell in love with it (he said "wow, that swap partner is pretty lucky!") So of course I had to give it to him (Don't worry, swap partner is getting other goodies instead Wink)

So without further ado... Zombie!

In my hand (he's little):

profile shot:

and somewhat more close up, (and somewhat more blurry) but you can see some of the detail near the bullet holes - I tried to add "blood splatter" (I was watching Forensic Files shortly before making this Cheesy)

I put those big glass aquarium stones in the bottom 1/3 of his body to stabilize him because his head is supposed to sit forward (he IS a zombie, after all) but this makes him unstable. The glass stones were what I had around the house rather than going out to buy poly pellets, but they actually worked REALLY well.

Let me know what you think! Cheesy

I finished another large thing for mcbenno, JUST NOW.  I looooooooooove it and I am so happy with how it came out and I think she'll love it too!  I hope so!  I will probably "ship" drive it over to her house or something tomorrow.  Smiley

My arms hurt.  Haha.

and here it be!

it's a cupcake purse! It's super soft and cute cute cute! Grin

and roomy too (jenicat said she took a photo of how much it holds... i'll let her show that)

AND... it can be used as a HAT!

OK, maybe not that last part... Wink

It's fuzzytastic and I loves it Cheesy

Package #3!

I am a horrible partner! I received this AWESOME package from babiestarlite13 a while ago and never posted photos Sad

First: Some of her favorites (which are some of my favorites too! Wink) applesauce (LOVE!), lime jello (!), gummy bears (!), pop rocks (!), and tropical trail mix (!) can you tell this was exciting?! This photo is screwy - Craftster's photo editing sometimes works for me and sometimes doesn't, so I'm not sure what is up with it. I tried to rotate it, and it rotated it and then rotated it back and stretched it funny.

Second: This almost made me cry. Part of the reason I've been a lackluster partner this swap is because one of our cats suddenly got really sick and stopped eating. Despite many hundreds of dollars in vet bills and syringe feeding her multiple times a day she died about a month later. We still don't know for sure what happened, but we think she developed Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which is really complicated and you can google it is you really care. ANYWAY... Tinkerbell was the best cat EVER, and the FH and I have had a really rough summer with that. Star sent me this set of cat-themed scrapbooking papers and goodies to scrapbook some memories of her, which was so incredibly touching and sweet. Sorry about the crappy picture, the flash kept reflecting off the plastic wrap...

Third: More favorites/extras Cheesy A pad of piggy post-its, which somehow didn't make it into the picture (but you can see one of them on the puzzle book), a puzzle book - SO FUN! A pair of pinking shears which is AWESOME, a GREAT smelling candle, and some SUPER pretty ribbon which she bought because one of them was paisley and she knows I like paisley Grin

Fourth: (save the best for last!) A BEAUTIFUL rainbow lap quilt! Cheesy I LOVE this! It is so perfect for using just to cover your legs and feet when you are watching TV or whatever. It is beautiful and she did a great job on it. the border and back are pink (my favorite)

Thanks SO much babiestarlite13 Grin You were an AWESOME partner and I'm glad we got to become friends Cheesy

Package #2!

I received my awesome package 2 from babiestarlite13 and here it is!

The whole package (nosy cat not included):

My starter kit... Perler Beads! You know, those melty iron beads? And she even sorted some of the colors for me!:

And my stash-addition! four skiens of wonderful cotton yarn, an awesome crochet hook roll that she made for me (and did an amazing job on too!), crochet hooks, and the most clever stitch-markers I've ever seen!

Closeup of the stitch-markers. She put letter beads on them so I can take the hook away and come back to the project later and know what size hook I was using. How smart!

Thanks so much! Cheesy

Package #1

Babiestarlite13 forgot to include the notebook that she explained everything in, SO I'll do my best to guess and she can add if she wants Smiley

First we've got her artistic item about herself, a card w/letter inside, and three old postcards which are very cool!

Then! BEARS! these are Great Smoky Mountains postcards of bears, which she used to work with (I don't think these are the actual bears though... Wink)

Two items from her town which is apparently the town that Mayberry was modeled after for the Andy Griffith show, so I got Andy Griffith trading cards and a Mt. Airy, NC shot glass w/ Andy on it (I guess I need to take up shot glass collecting now!). As a side note, I went to middle school in Mt. Airy, MD. funny!

Then, all kinds of goodies! Some Lisa Frank stamps (which is SO funny because I got her some Lisa Frank stuff too!  Lips sealed OOPS! pretend to be surprised, Star Wink) Glow-in-the-dark stars that rock. I LOVE glow-in-the-dark stuff. It's the 80s in me, I guess Cheesy A book of stickers and a paint-in canvas with a butterfly (too cute!), and a bath mitt and one of those magic expanding washcloths (so I can pamper myself - HAHA! Wink)

Then! (HA! you thought I was done!) She made gift bows from magazine ads (My cat was very interested in the crinkly noises they were making and wouldn't move for the picture, so I let her be in it) TOO COOL!

I got a BAG OF CANDY! haha Cheesy and she made me two bars of soap (to go with my washcloth and bath mitt!) and some super cute star shaped crayons that kind of melted Sad

Close up of the soap and crayons - I can't figure out HOW the crayons could have melted - The package was left inside my (air conditioned) apartment building, and she brought it to the post office. Sad Well, at least they are still mostly star shaped and still make marks Cheesy

Thanks new friend babiestarlite! hope you love your package too!

Hey everyone!

Jenicat and I live basically within walking distance of each other, so we decided to just swap in person. She surprised me tonight with my present! Yay! Now I have to finish hers Grin She made me a scarf off of my wist. She's awesome and learned to crochet just to make this. Which is funny because just yesterday she said she didn't like crocheting, and I was thinking to myself "but you don't know how to crochet (Huh)" haha. Cheesy She also gave me two small items that I can use in my crafting projects.

Here's the pictures:

1) Cupcake ribbon (because I loves me some cupcakes)

2) Some B-B-Q charms that I can use to scrapbook my (cookout-themed) wedding to her brother next year (oh, oops! I forgot to mention she's my best friend and future sister-in-law - haha) Wink

3) Baby Jenicat modeling the rainbow scarf

And Future Mr Mcbenno modeling the rainbow scarf

And when I asked him to hold it up so I could get a good picture of the whole thing...

It's beautiful-tastic Grin

Ok, so I got my package from eye_on_sparrow today. She really spoiled me! Here's thumbnails so this isn't super long, but just click on them to see a bigger picture. Cheesy

The whole package spread out on our couch:

Ten blank notecards that she decorated with cupcakedy goodness (the orange one is the one she used to write to me)

A cupcake coin purse with two little cupcake lip glosses inside, cupcake candles, and a cupcake cook book

Two recycled sweater cupcake pincushions and a knitted cupcake. eye_on_sparrow wrote in her note that she wasn't 100% happy with how the knitted cupcake turned out and I could use it as a cat toy - I will do no such thing! I think it's adorable and the white yarn she used reminds me of coconut!

A cloth shopping bag and a matching pouch full of mesh produce bags. This is so awesome and I will definately use it this weekend when I go grocery shopping!

And last but not least a cupcakey fabric bathmat! This is SO cool. The FH loved it too!

My cat promptly claimed this... as soon as i put it on the floor to take a picture she walked over and sprawled out on it

These two pictures are close ups of the bathmat. it's such a cool technique, I've never seen anything done like this before.

Thank you SO MUCH eye_on_sparrow! I hope you like my package as much as I loved this one! Grin

YAY! picture time  Grin (sorry there are so many)

First is the Kaylee doll with both her outfits:

...and back

and I'm a total dork, but I was very proud of the fact that I made the strawberry removable Cheesy

The "shiny things" jewelry box

all the shinys in the box  Grin

up close of the Kaylee-inspired bracelet

The "LOVE" necklace and Kaylee strawberry necklace (you can actually probably see them better in the first picture! haha)

The Inara-inspired necklace which is inexplicably upside-down

and an unfortunately blurry picture of the flamingo necklace

equally blurry close-up of the flamingo pendant

room sign

Linnybelle asked specifically that something be crafted for her boyfriend because he was jealous of her last Firefly swap package, so I made an "A-Grade Rations" box...

...filled with Asian candy!  Wink addressed to "Linnybelle and her Companion"

And for Mr. Linnybelle also, a journal/blank book/whatever book with quotes from Firefly and Serenity

Details of a couple of the pages:

YAY! this was so much fun!  Grin

OOH! my package from Linnybelle came!  Grin (It came last night but the FH was determined to install a new version of Mac OS X on my computer last night, which of course took until well into today, so I couldn't post until tonight. What bad timing on his part!  Cheesy)

And now for show-and-tell! (drum roll please)

OH! sorry some of the pictures are on their sides, I am a bit of a dimwit when it comes to computer-y stuff sometimes! Undecided

The goodies (complete with shiny tags on each item!) I forgot to take a picture of the notecard she included, but you can see it in this photo. It is dinosaur-ific!

My very own dinosaur army so I can reenact the great betrayal

Chopsticks "because everyone needs chopsticks" says Linnybelle (and I concur)

A collage of Serenity along with "you can't take the sky from me" and a piece of Asian cloth

A t-shirt that made me laugh out loud (you'll see why in a minute)

detail of the bonnet applique on the front of the shirt

the back of the shirt

and the note that came with it (tee hee hee!)

Scone mix so I can cook for my hubby just like Saffron (or not, like Zoe Wink)

AND... this awesome quilted wall hanging that is inspired by a photo Linnybelle found online. When she sends me the link, I'll post it here too.

close up of one of the squares

This was such a fun first swap. Thanks for making it awesome Linnybelle! I hope you like your package too! *crosses fingers*  Grin

Oh and as a side note, I find it hilarious that Craftster's spell-check wants to change jennomcbenno (my photobucket name - mcbenno was taken) to "concubine". UM... wtf?  Huh
