21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / group swapper leaving day after partnering, Get a replacement partner??? on: February 03, 2010 07:02:42 AM
I'm organizing a swap right now that has groups instead of partners. I assigned partners two days ago and sent all the partner info out yesterday. Last night I received a PM from someone asking to be withdrawn from the swap.

My question is, should I post on the angel board asking for a replacement partner???

Luckily in this situation it only affects one person, but I don't think it'd be fair for that one person to be sending and receiving less than they signed up for (this swap had the option to have 1, 3, or 5 partners)...

In this swap everyone will pick a favorite story, poem, myth, etc that they would like to have illustrated. The stories will be broken into sections and shared with your group. Each person in the group will craft one part from everyones story and will receive a different part of their story from each person. So everyone will end with an illustrated/decorated story with each page done by a different crafter.

Swap Rules:
~ Send your story to organizer on time (by end of signups) for approval
~ If your story is not approved you must be ready to pick another one quickly. If it is too long you can decide to only have part of it crafted (saving the rest for yourself or a future round of this swap)
~ Keep stories and art PG13, NO exceptions.
~ For each page you craft you must include the text of your section (this can be done creatively or not, but should look nice)
~ This is a craft swap, be creative! Put effort into your work; think about what you would like to receive. If it takes only five minutes to craft you might want to re-think it.
~ Do not alter the text of any section you are crafting unless you have approval from your partner (and let organizer know)
-Include your artist information on a small card (think ATC size) for each page you create
- PM your partner and organizer when you send and receive. You must get a DC# for this swap, if you cant get one due to size/weight then you must keep your receipt as proof of sending.
- You will get feedback for this swap when all your pages have been sent & received, and when you post pictures of all the pages you receive in the gallery.

Be creative! Your pages can be done in a variety of ways; collages, comic book format, spiraling words, paint, 3-D popup, computer graphics, photographs, pictures done in cross stitch, etc

When its time to post pictures in the gallery please post your received story pages in chronological order so everyone can read it!

Page setup options, use this to describe how you want your pages to be and refer to this when you are crafting your partner(s) pages (you will only be decorating one side of the paper):
Traditional page Longest sides of paper are the sides of the page, shortest sides are the top and bottom of the page
Sideways page Longest sides of paper are the top and bottom of the page, shortest sides are the sides of the page
Folded page - Fold paper in half, fold will be between the short sides of the paper (this creates two pages on one side)

23  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Illustrate/Decorate my Favorite Story Swap (Signups are Open!) on: December 16, 2009 10:55:19 AM
Inspired in part by the 1000 Journals swap idea https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=328754.0 and also by the need to keep shipping costs low by only shipping paper Smiley

Ok, here is my idea. It is a little complicated so I will do my best to explain.

Remember those campfire stories that would be passed around, everyone adding a sentence or two? Well that is the basic premise of this swap, but with a crafty twist.

Everyone will be assigned a group and everyone will start their own story and add to the other stories in their group. The stories will be written first through e-mail so that everyone will know what part of each story they are responsible for. Then they get crafting. Their part can take up 1 3 pages and must be crafty in some way; illustrated, decorated, etc. A paper size will also be decided on so everyone can have a finished book at the end. When everyone has received the pages for their story they will post them in order in the gallery for everyone to read.

The stories can be ended by the last person in each chain, or the starter can decide to leave it open for future rounds (this would be a gamble as it would be the first round)

Would also need to figure out a min and max word/sentence limit per contribution.

Any other ideas? Different ideas? Anyone else interested?

I think this would be a lot of fun, everyone will end up with a story full of different styles. Smiley

Current Idea:
Use an existing story, break into sections, each person in the group will craft one part of the other stories. (read on for the swap idea progression)
24  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / Altered Fairy Tale Swap ~ 1 Angel Found on: December 07, 2008 10:07:41 AM
I need another angel for the Altered Fairy Tales Swap.
Angel found, thanks dragonmama!

Original Swap Thread

The idea of this swap is to alter in some way one or more fairy tales/characters using the themes listed in the questionnaire, if you have any questions look at the swap info or PM me.

JustinKase is in the US, here is part of his questionnaire:

List three (or more) fairy tales/characters/creatures:
1. Rumpelstiltskin
2. Puss in Boots (Not a cat fan, but I like this guy)
3. Almost anything by the Brothers Grimm.
List three (or more) themes/styles (or take a chance and write surprise me):
1. Goth
2. Pirate
3. Surprise Me
List any themes you do not want your partner to craft (if you chose surprise me for the above): sweet and cute.  I do not do sweet and cute.
What are your favorite colors? Black, Red, Purple
What types of crafts would you be interested in receiving for this swap?  I am a guy and I know I am hard to craft for, so surprise me.  I wear bracelets, watches, and I have a thing for unique belt buckles if that at all helps.  I have plenty of wall space, and I wear a 3 XL in shirts.
Do you have any allergies? Bell peppers

This swap was for 5-7 points worth of crafted items. Please PM me if you can help out!

We need one angel to alter some fairy tales for Lmcbride (who lives in the US of A). She sent an amazing package but we haven't heard from her partner in some time now. The idea of this swap is to craft 5-7 points by altering fairy tales/creatures in some way using the characters/stories/creatures and themes she has chosen... See the swap thread or PM me if you have any questions.

Here are some parts of Lmcbride's questionnaire:

List three (or more) fairy tales/characters/creatures:
 (in no particular order)
1.  Giants - The Selfish Giant (by Oscar Wilde) is my favorite, but I also like the one from Jack in the Beanstalk as well as others.
2.  I am totally intrigued by Baba Yaga, the witch who lives in a hut on chicken legs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baba_Yaga  and I would love to see her portrayed somehow in a more benign way than as a totally evil character.  Donna Jo Napoli has retold Rapunzel (Zel is the title of her awesome young adult novel) and several others, and I would love to see a similar type of portrayal/image/craft that shows Baba Yaga as mysterious and perhaps scary, but mostly just an extremely eccentric kooky old lady who has an awesome house and magical powers.

3.  I like crows, ravens, magpies http://www.squidoo.com/crow1 The Rainbow Crow is one of my favorite stories!

Here again, the prevalent image of Crow is that of a harbinger of death but I am more intrigued by the portrayal of Crow in the less-commonly imagined light of having his ugliness as a result of generosity towards others.

List three (or more) themes/styles (or take a chance and write surprise me):
1.  I really like the Steampunk style ie combining Victorian and sc-fi styles
2.  I like anything sparkly, shiny, glittery (combined with either bright or dark colors)
3.  I guess my third theme would be (see above) the imagining of characters in a positive light, who are most commonly seen in a very negative way (Crow and Baba Yaga)

What are your favorite colors?  - I like bright colors and I like dark colors, in fact I like pretty much everything except grey, beige, and pastels.  I like sparkly and shiny things.  Did I say that already?

What types of crafts would you be interested in receiving for this swap? I am wide open to suggestions!  Im way too picky about things I wear, so possibly clothing wouldnt be my first choice.  If my partner has the talent and skill to make me an image of a half crow/half Newfoundland dog animal in any form, that would totally rock my world, but I completely understand if its not possible.  I can't do it!  Wink

Do you have any allergies? anything scented, cigarette smoke, and acrylic yarn

28  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Scavenger Hunt Swap? on: August 31, 2008 10:53:54 AM
I'm not sure if this has been done before but here is my idea:

Everyone would send their partner a list of 10 items and the partner would then have to scavenge them (lets say she/he only needs to find at least five) and then incorporate the items into a crafted item (or items).

People could scavenge their house, garage sales, thrift stores, etc... And be creative! If I put "skunk" on my list then my partner might find a skunk figurine, a skunk sticker, a black and white piece of fabric...

Any takers? Any ideas to add?
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Alcohol/Bar Related Swap Round Two? on: August 26, 2008 06:47:45 PM
I had so much fun hosting this swap, would anyone be interested in a round two?

If I host this it will be basically the same set-up, I would only change to points rather than set sizes to allow for more creativity.  Smiley

Need one angel for the Alcohol/Bar Related Swap
Swap thread

I will be needing an angel for myself, and since I feel weird as the organizer asking for an angel I have decided I will pick someone that is not a friend of craftster so that they can be one (since that is the reward for angeling). I also ask that you be of legal drinking age in your country since that was a rule for joining the swap.

In this swap we crafted 1 medium and 3 smalls.

Here are some of my questionnaire answers:
Whats your poison? Malibu Coconut Rum (or mango, or banana, or pineapple), Just about any other rum (Tattoo and Redrum after Malibu), Midori Melon, Heineken, beer
Least favorite drink? Tequila, gin, and vodka
What are the favorite drinks of your household (optional if you want to share your crafts with family)? My husband loves Finlandia Vodka (and its the only vodka I can stand).
Do you have any allergies? nope
Anything type of craft would like to receive? Just about anything would be great. Maybe some kind of hair accessory, I could also use recipe cards (as well as recipes), shot glasses, coasters, a swap journal, jewelry (no earrings though), a new belt the list goes on but I would probably be happy with anything.
Anything else you would like to share with your partner? I dont regularly drink whiskey but I have been known to mix it with coke, and I do like the way the Jack Daniels label looks. You can also take a look at my wist (link in my signature) to get an idea of my style and things I like.

PM me if you are interested
