11  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Latest News / Re: 7/16/08 - New ads being shown on Craftster on: November 07, 2008 10:02:41 AM
wow. thanks for sharing that leah.

it's hard for me to be unbiased and apolitical about this, so i'm not going to get into anything else, but if i were a blogger or had my own website, i would be just as upset as these bloggers.

i'm curious to know if there were any other political contests that craftster saw advertisements for. if it's just yes on 8, that seems seriously fishy and backhanded to me.

thank you leah for being amazing!

thank you leah. i apologize for my over-the-top reaction. and thank you so much for your quick and reasoned response. i know this is in no way a personal attack and i am glad to know you understand how upsetting this is.

to me, it just further illustrates the dirty tricks that this campaign has used to try to win. i'm sure they probably change the source of those ads all the time to get them onto unsuspecting websites. the money they have behind this is ridiculous.

yes, thank you leah for getting the ads off the site. personally, i think it's okay for me to have a very visceral reaction to that ad because, while it might be "just politics" to some people, these are my civil rights that we're dealing with!

not to criticize, but leah, there is one question that lilyvanilli asked that you didn't answer, specifically:
If I pay my FOC fees that are due am I going to be supporting someone who chose to put that ad up?

and i want to know because i am a FOC and i'm upset.

17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / i am ambivalent about the corset thing on: October 23, 2008 03:59:05 PM
am⋅biv⋅a⋅lence [am-biv-uh-luhns] –noun
1.    uncertainty or fluctuation, esp. when caused by the inability to make a choice or by a simultaneous desire to say or do two opposite or conflicting things.

i'm totally ambivalent about the corset movement. i mean, 85 pages of corset questions and answers and growing!

so here's the thing. one side of me says that it's great, people are crafting, it doesn't really matter what they're making, they make a woman's body look hot, they're sexy, as lingerie, they totally turn me on (i'm queer, by the way) and i kinda want to make one.

but then the feminist in me starts ranting about what would women from the 19th century and before say? women who were forced to look a certain way and made to wear dangerously tight corsets. women who were diagnosed as "hysterical" because they fainted when wearing them. and why do i think that the look a corset creates (slimmed down waist, ba-bam bust and hips) is so sexy? is it fundamentally sexy or is it because fashion magazines and the media make me think it is?

obviously, i hope you realize i'm not making judgments, just trying to understand my own feelings. and i hadn't seen any sort of debate about this, so i want to know what everyone else thinks.

[moderator: if my post should be moved to the corset post, feel free to move it. i just figured it was a different topic entirely...]
18  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Suggestions for "Envy" costume on: October 23, 2008 03:15:15 PM

that's a picture of an ad for a halloween party here in sf. i think the envy is pretty good! i agree with the ideas about green accessories. you could also get all your friends to be the other six deadly sins.

as for other suggestions, you could be tinkerbell or just a generic fairy/sprite.
19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: is a dress still a dress if it's made of wood? on: October 23, 2008 02:07:06 PM
hot. the dress and the model. and the picture. just a hot hot hot project.
20  COOKING / Dessert / Re: accidental boobies cookies on: October 22, 2008 05:41:39 PM
hmmm...might just be me, but they look like a different x-rated body part entirely. let's see, what's a nice euphamistic way to say it...um, brown starfish? turtle poking out of the shell? something like that.

but yum!
