1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / New Job Offer (semi sewing related) on: January 26, 2013 09:31:32 PM
So I just wanted to get some input about a decision I have to make soon. Lips sealed

I currently work at a long established (18years) alterations place in my home town, Ive been there for about 8 months. Its been pretty good. Just a regular, permanent part time, job. No major dramas, good work environment, lovely work collogues and lots of work. The only set back for me, no dressmaking, its all just alterations. Also my boss knows I make 50s style dresses and still does not recommend me to make circle skirts to rock n roll dancers that do come to the shop. Set uniform.

So cut to now, a New (12months) Vintage clothing / pin up shop, that also does alterations, around the corner ask me to take in a few dresses Ive made just to see if they would sell my stuff in store/if they wanted my dresses to sell. I was asked to come back in the next day and they offered me a traineeship on the spot as they are over loaded with custom dressmaking orders / alterations. Willing to pay same wage / match. No uniform, can dress 50s all the time.

I just wanted some thoughts, ideas, input as Im having a hard time. Grin

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Dress Pattern HELP on: August 21, 2010 11:37:31 PM
So my BF's Brother is getting married in Oct and I'm making my own dress. I found this dress on www.modcloth.com

I have a pattern (http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8184-products-5432.php?page_id=855) to make the basic 'black' part of the dress I'm just a bit unsure on making a pattern for the red/black skirt part.

Would something like this work?

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / From size 22 to size 8 on: July 28, 2010 05:25:14 AM
My mum was given a few sized 22 muumuus by a friend, lets just say she didn't like them. So she gave them to me. i love the fabric/print and just had to make them into something wearable.
I used Vogue 8184 pattern for this. (i do not like boning, if anyone knows a good tut or videos on boning i love to see it)

This is what i started with

this is with the boning

and this it what i have now.

I cannot wait till summer so i can wear it out!!
8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Re: Lets See Pics of Tattoos You Designed! on: May 26, 2010 02:26:04 AM
my mum was the same with the first tattoo i got, by the third (rainbow brite) she'd warmed to them Grin, even took here to a tattoo comp! i won some prizes too.
the cost and pain are too much to just get them to piss someone off, and a little bit too permanent.
