91  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Knitty's Cleaves? on: August 30, 2005 06:23:53 PM
I'm joining in the knitalong!

I just started cleaves with debbie bliss's alpaca silk in coral. It was a gift from my mother, and I have been dying to use it for something. This might seem a little crazy, but I think it might work. I am knitting it in US 10 needles, so it is a loose knit, but it's still going to be smaller than described in the pattern. Luckily, my upper half is freakishly tiny (28" bust!) but I think I may still need to knit the medium size.

This is my first garment and I am really excited to see how it turns out. I just hope I am not making a mistake by using a smaller guage than suggested! Should I just frog it and buy lamb's pride bulky before I waste too much time? Any advice would be glady appreciated.

I just moved to SF, South of Market and lived in Oakland for 5 years and I totally miss it, so I will be happy to meet wherever.

it is the best!

i have earrings and pins there.  they are willing to take almost anything, it seems, on consignment, so long as they can make space for it, because the place is tiny.

it's great because everything is really really cheap and really really amazing.  there is no other place like it.

it looks nice and stiff and sturdy and clean.  what is inside of it to make it like that?  cardboard?  i am working on some clutches, too, but so far mine are all floppy- what is the secret?
97  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: fantastic earring display on: September 18, 2004 11:14:37 AM

i would love to see littleone's earring display- that sounds so fun!  i always thought it would be cool to have earring cards that are in the shape of a profile.

sadly enough, the earrings have been on that display for about a month- and i don't think that any have sold!  the shop where the display lives is tiny and busting at the seams with super cool merch, and the display is at the top of a high shelf- very hard to find.  oh well.  at least it is getting plenty of attention on craftster- thanks everybody!
98  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / fantastic earring display on: September 06, 2004 01:27:27 PM
Hi everybody!  I just discovered craftster this week and am very excited to post this.  I wish I had discovered this sooner!  I hope my image link works- here goes nuthin

So- I make stud earrings from vintage buttons.  Pens & Needles (a great store in sf http://www.needles-pens.com/)  recently asked me to provide a vertical display.  I started with a simple cardboard traingle, stapled together.  Then my boyfriend had a great idea- why not draw a landscape for the earrings to live in?  here is the result

To do it- I scanned in the cardboard texture, drew a scene over it on the computer, printed it, trimmed it, pasted it onto the real cardboard, then put my earrings through it!  totally easy!
