1  Pianos and Birds and Lamps, Oh my! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by water_heaven on: May 14, 2008 08:47:26 PM
Well folks, I've been trying to expand my creative vision (as it were), and have come to photography.

This is my piano. Unfortunatly, I don't actually play it. Time to get on that. But for now, it provides a lovely subject.

This is just the view out my front window when the clouds are in interesting formations.

This one has a bit more of a story behind it. The front window of my house is rather large, and sadly, birds can see through it to the windows at the back of the house, and don't realize that there is a pane of glass there. As I am one of the few willing to actually go find the deceased birds and take them out of the bushes, I end up walking around to the back of my house with a dead bird a couple times a year. It makes me retrospective. So the last time it happened, I decided to take pictures of it. This is how I found the poor thing, it had landed in the bush by my door. (for anyone wondering, it is a Cedar Waxwing.)

Comments and/or criticism would be greatly appreciated!

2  That is one melancholy dinosaur. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by water_heaven on: May 14, 2008 08:22:33 PM
Meet Sherry, sister of Milton (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=235816.msg2582669#msg2582669) Melancholy Dino. Apparantly, they come from a sad family.

But Everyone must have a reason to be melancholy, even if they are a lowly dino. Sherry`s story is most unfortunate. She was once a happy, care-free dino. But one day, she found out that she had to get a lobotomy. Unfortunatly, a severe personality change resulted. Her fancy-free manner deserted her, and she became low-spirited. Poor Sherry!

I'd love to hear feedback!

3  Everyone Needs Some Melancholy In Their Life! (a tad pic heavy...) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by water_heaven on: April 04, 2008 09:07:04 PM
I was once again struck with inspiration to make some sad critters. So here they are, the newest members of the melancholy community, I'm pleases to introduce Drystan, Arista, and Horace.

This is Drystan, he is extremely cynical. As a result, none of the other bunnies really enjoy being around him. He doesn't have many friends. So he's melancholy. But he is still smirking. His name means "riot" or "tumult" this is, incidentally, what he causes.

Arista's name means "ear of corn". It is refering to her huge and disproportionate ears. She had a repressive childhood. She has trust issues, poor dear. So she won't tell all of the reasons that she is melancholy.

Lastly (for this topic!) There is Horace. He has very short legs. He could never keep up with the other bears.

He wants to be a movie-star, but he is really uncomfortable in front of the camera, making his aspiration impossible. No wonder he is melancholic, poor thing. See the fidgety look on his face?

Comments? Constructive critism?

4  A Melancholic Dinosaur in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by water_heaven on: March 25, 2008 06:11:04 AM
This is Milton Ohkropir, the melancholic dino. Why is he melancholic? Well, his mouth i in the wrong place, and he is a plastic surgery disaster. Notice how his waist is smaller than his neck? Notice his long scar going around his arm? Poor Milton. No wonder he is melancholic.

Any constructive criticism/comments?

5  A Melancholy Flying Bear! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by water_heaven on: March 04, 2008 01:57:42 PM
Yep, I rather taken with these hunnies. Sad animals=cuuuute.

So, you may be thinking: "Why is a flying bear sad? I mean...she can FLY."

Well...she is the only flying bear left. She is all alone in the world. So she is sad.

Here she is, Era the flying bear, with her only good friend, Daphne the bonsai tree (I like naming things...)

The name Era is derived from an Albanian word that means "wind". I thought it was appropriate.

It is a bit difficult to see her little mouth, on account of the houndstooth.

And again!

She is probably my favorite menlancholy friend so far. AND AND AND!!! She smells like lavender! Because I stuffed her with barley and lavender!!!

I like comments, don't we all?? What do y'all think of her?

6  The Melancholy Bunnies and a Mute Cat in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by water_heaven on: March 02, 2008 08:59:11 PM
I've suddenly become quite fond of making plushes. Probably excessively fond of it...I am slowly populating my room with sad animals! Why are things so much cuter when they are sad? Who knows?

This is Vlad. He is named after Vlad the Impaler...I was reading history.

This is Wallace, named after William Wallace.

This is Darla...she isn't named after anyone.

This is Tacita, it is a Latin name and means "silent" or "mute". She is, incidentally, mute.

Here's a group shot! The black spotted thing on Wallace is his teddy.

These are the buttons I found for Wallace's eyes. They are pretty much the coolest buttons EVER.

This is Tacita and her cousin, Pointy.

7  I like octopus!!! in Needlework: Completed Projects by water_heaven on: January 29, 2008 01:13:52 PM
Sea creatures are highly ideal: so cute, and so easy to simplify!

One of my New Year's resolutions is to expand my crafting horizons, and so today I pick up my hoop and needle and floss.

I really like this, even though it is really simple!

8  Well, it's -40 C, so I think I'll make a swimsuit. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by water_heaven on: January 28, 2008 09:21:16 PM
I don't know how it works out, but on the soldest day of the year so far, I decided to make a swimsuit.

Forgive the modeling with the shirt underneath, like I said, it's cold Wink

In the pictures it kindof looks brown, but it is in fact black with white polka dots. I drafted a rough pattern, and then used the good old method of trial and error to finish it. I'm really happy with the results!!

Ehhh...winter weight...ew.

What do y'all think?

9  My first weaving experience! in Weaving: Completed Projects by water_heaven on: January 28, 2008 02:32:22 PM
I went to a friend's house for the afternoon, and she taught me as much as one can in a single afternoon. Who knew weaving was so involved??

THe parts where the edges get all loopy and not good is where I started weaving  Wink
We got bored of the green after a bit, and decided to have fun with color!!
And then she geave it to me, and I was made happy!!

detail of the end bit. The color is a bit off, on account of my room being north-facing and there being little daylight.

10  Okay, so it's not overly original... in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by water_heaven on: January 28, 2008 10:31:33 AM
The first person who made a tie skirt must be fuming. So many people have copied them, and now, they're just one of the herd. Poor skirt-inventor.

Here it is, my tie skirt. A product of ridiculously good prices at my favorite thrift store, my new and amazing sewing machine, and lots and lots of seam ripping.

I really like the blue-with-red tie. It is so silky!

Sorry about the wierd fit, it is due to wearing pants. It is WAY too cold out to wear a skirt, even in the house! Minus 32 celesius plus a windchill...brrr. Come on summer!
