1  Tutorial for bag or purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sewchristine on: June 16, 2015 02:33:56 AM
I say "bag or purse" because sometimes bag is confusing for US readers who use purse to mean what UK people call bag or handbag. (confused? don't be!) This is a pattern and tutorial for a roomy handbag with curved corners and purchased leather handles.  It has plenty of pockets and a zip closure. This tutorial has absolutely loads of pictures so I have put them in a PDF download.  (I hope this is OK)

What you need:
75cm exterior fabric (cotton, light weight furnishing fabric, cotton mix)
75cm metre lining fabric (cotton)
75cm medium fusible interfacing
75cm Firm Foam (or quilt batting eg. Vilene Thermolam)
55cm zip
2 x 22cm zips
Baseboard (I used Artist Grey Board)
1 pair of leather or faux leather handles.

Cutting out.
Cut each of the following in exterior fabric, lining fabric, fusible interfacing, and Firm Foam:
60cm x 5.5cm.  Cut 2 for Zip gusset.
46cm x 10cm.  Cut one for bottom gusset.
Cut 2 from the pattern for the front and back.
22cm x 13cm. Cut 2 in lining fabric for front zipped pocket.  Cut one in fusible interfacing.
22cm x 13cm. Cut 2 in exterior or lining fabric for inside zipped pocket.  Cut one in fusible interfacing.
26cm x 14cm. Cut 2 in lining fabric for inside slip pockets.
28cm x 7.5cm. Cut 1 in baseboard.  Use a blade not scissors!
1cm seam allowance throughout.
If youve made bags before you will be able to follow this tutorial by the pictures.
Cut out all the fabric as above. Start by applying the fusible interfacing to the exterior pieces.  Then apply the Firm Foam on top of the fusible interfacing.  Secure with pins or 505 spray.   Apply fusible interfacing to one pocket piece for the external pocket and the same for the internal pocket.  Look through all the pictures before you start.

Rather than upload all the images to Craftster I have put them in a PDF along with the pattern.  You can download it from https://app.box.com/files/0/f/0/1/f_32013591969  (This is a free download)

2  Charm Quilt finished in Quilting: Completed Projects by sewchristine on: February 07, 2014 02:30:19 AM
This quilt started as a charm pack.  I then added borders of either print or cream cotton to the charms.  Then I added a border of floral print to match the charm squares an bound it in the same fabric.  The back is plain cream cotton and the wadding is polyester.  It's turned out well - if I say so myself!  BTW the charms were 5ins square.

3  Purse (wallet) with 2 zips and pockets in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sewchristine on: October 18, 2013 02:35:58 PM

This is a tutorial for a purse (wallet) that has 2 zippered compartments, a pocket for bank notes and 2 pockets for credit cards.  It does up with a flap that has a Kam push stud snap. It's pretty easy to make - don't be put off by the zippers they are easy to put in in this pattern.

Rather than putting the whole tutorial on here word for word, I have saved it as a PDF file and you can down load it here. https://app.box.com/s/ffkjqp6xuvbtl9863y45

4  Half circle frame bags in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sewchristine on: March 27, 2012 08:41:22 AM
These bags are really easy to make and the frame goes on like a breeze  In fact they are so easy you could buy one frame and make a few bag bodies and swap them around. Becasue of the kisslock closure they are quite secure and most of the frames come with 2 extra little loops that you can either clip a chain handle to or use cord.  I thought they only came in 6 inch but I've seen some that are quite a bit bigger.

5  Multi compartmental wallet purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sewchristine on: January 24, 2012 02:17:54 AM
I designed this wallet purse with zipped compartments, card slots and other sections.  It was a bit of a pain to make but a useful size and room for everything.  I was going to write a tutorial but it was too complicated!

8  Red Linen Bag/Purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sewchristine on: October 13, 2010 02:28:26 AM
This bag is made from red linen Laura Ashley furnishing fabric.  A lovely heavy lien with a pretty design.  The handle is "gucci-style" it is wide and high enough to go over your shoulder.  In the photo the fabric really doesn't look as bright as it is.  It is a real true red.  I used pelmet weight interfacing which is quite stiff so the bag holds its own shape.

9  Pretty bag with loads of pockets (Lots of picutes) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sewchristine on: September 08, 2010 12:16:53 AM

I made this bag from Amy Butler fabric in the Love series.  It is interlined with stiff interlining (pelmet-grade - just a bit thinner than timtex)  I reinforced the base with plastic grid and added gold coloured feet.  The bag has loads of pockets.  4 slip pockets (2 on each side) one zippered internal pocket and a pocket for my mobile at the end of the bag. its got a zipper closure across the top of the bag and two handles in matching fabric.  I also added a gold coloured chain for a shoulder strap.   There's more on my blog http://tiny.cc/6z5vc

10  Oilcloth Handbag/Purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sewchristine on: May 31, 2010 02:25:26 AM
I made this new wipe clean bag fom oilcloth.  I quilted the front and back.  I think it looks a bit too much like a wash bag but I am still going to use it!   Its a handy size and I added plenty of internal pockets.  The lining is made from cotton 70's single bed sheet.  Pretty eh?
