31  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Crusty Cross Stitch - possibly offensive language on: September 24, 2008 08:54:40 AM
Hey there! I have no explanation for this. It just makes me laugh.  Cheesy

32  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Dr. Horrible Cross Stitch on: September 12, 2008 07:47:16 PM
I looooove Dr. Horrible, so of course I wanted to stitch something inspired by it. I chose a phrase from my favorite song, Brand New Day - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU1i1gNaYqg - and used a blackwork book I got recently to come up with the design. Hope you like it!

If you've never heard of Dr. Horrible's sing-along blog, check it out here - http://www.drhorrible.com/ - so good. Smiley
33  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Flight of the Conchords Cross Stitch - if that's what you're into on: August 17, 2008 06:38:18 PM
My favorite Flight of the Conchords song is "If You're Into It." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY8jaGs7xJ0 I get it stuck in my head all the time. So I thought, stitch it up.

The picture's not that great, but you get the idea. I'm going to add a border and probably line the hot fudge and the whipped cream containers to define them more - you can barely see the nozzle on the whipped cream as it is. Smiley

Hope you like it -feedback is appreciated!   Smiley

*edit* added this border:

34  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Eat Farts Cross Stitch on: August 04, 2008 04:21:06 PM
A friend of mine said this once and I shamelessly stole it and have used it ever since.  I think it first came up in conversation when I said I was going to write an angry letter, but I didn't know how to start it. He suggested "Dear Sir: Bite Me. In conclusion, eat farts." It makes me laugh every time I think of it. Smiley

Hope you like it! Smiley
35  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Bloody Submission - Mom's empty threat sampler on: August 03, 2008 09:33:02 AM
When I saw the post about the needlework challenge, I starting thinking about movie or music quotes to use. But then, Kittykill's mention of "sweet and wise words handed down to us by our mothers" got me thinking - so I made this instead!

My Mom used to say this to my brothers and I instead of the typical threats.  In our house, "Clean up your room or you're grounded!" was replaced by "Clean up your room or I shall beat you into bloody submission!"  I think it might be due to her love of the language - she's a retired English Lit teacher.  Rest assured, no one in our home was ever beaten, into bloody submission or otherwise.  Grin

I hope you like it!

36  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Robot Love Cross Stitch on: July 05, 2008 07:46:40 PM
I love robots, and I really wanted to do a cross stitch that included one somehow. The other day this phrase popped into my head after hearing the song "Robots" by TV on the Radio.

The silver hearts in the border are stitched with metallic thread - I've started kind of a love-hate relationship with metallic thread now.

Hope you like it!
37  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Bathroom cross stitch - quote from Mosquito Coast on: June 06, 2008 08:34:02 AM
Ok, so it's 1986 and I'm twelve years old.  Along with millions of other 12 year olds at the time, I am a little obsessed with River Phoenix.  When the Mosquito Coast comes out, I go to see it in the theater even though the only thing that is remotely interesting in it as far as I'm concerned is River Phoenix.  I notice that Martha Plimpton's in it - she was in the Goonies, that's kind of cool! And then, suddenly, out of nowhere, she says this:

And I'm like, what?  Huh?  What?

So I think maybe I heard her wrong.  It doesn't make sense to my 12 year old brain at all - but I can't get it out of my head.

So time goes by and the movie comes out on VHS.  Even though I didn't really care for the movie, I rent it.  The first thing I do when I have the VCR to myself is fast-foward to that scene and hit play.  Is that what she said?  Rewind.  Play.  Rewind.  Play.

Yup. That's what she said.  So anyway, this was some sort of therapy for me.  I think I'll hang it up in the guest bathroom.

And yes, I'm weird.  Sorry. Grin
38  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Ludacris Cross Stitch - border added on: April 25, 2008 05:40:10 PM
Two things happened on the same weekend. I bought the Reader's Digest Antique Sampler set at Borders, and I heard the song "Hoes in My Room" by Ludacris.

Sorry the picture's so blurry. I think I might add a border, not sure. Feedback is appreciated!  Grin

Edit: I decided to add a border:

39  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cartman cross stitch on: March 23, 2008 07:38:14 AM
I wanted to try a large project, really just for practice and to see if I could stick with it, so I decided to stitch up my favorite South Park moment. In the scene, Cartman is giving a dramatic speech, suddenly stops, makes the face you see here for about 10-15 seconds, sneezes, and then continues where he left off. It makes me laugh every time I see it. The cross stitch is about 7.5 inches high and 6.5 inches wide.

40  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Kind of a Big Deal cross stitch on: March 19, 2008 08:22:27 PM
A friend asked me to stitch up this phrase from the movie Anchorman for him. I decided that the border should be the color of rich mahogany. I also wanted it to have some sort of fanfare about it, some sort of added pompousity (is that even a word?) so I added a little extra suprise. I can't get a decent picture to show it, but the white spaces in-between the outer sqaures of the border are filled in with glow in the dark thread. I was inspired by the dream/nightmare cross stitch that was posted recently. Smiley I wanted the border to light up like a marquee, and that was the closest thing I could get to that. I'm mailing it out tomorrow, I hope he enjoys it as much as I enjoyed fussing with it.  Grin
