11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Butter My Muffin Cross Stitch on: May 10, 2009 08:36:30 PM
Hey everybody! I made this stitch in a swap with Penny Nickels - http://donkeywolf.blogspot.com/ - and now that she's received it, I thought I'd post it.

The theme was naughty or sexy, and at first I had a hard time coming up with a design that I liked, but eventually with inspiration from the antique pattern library, urban dictionary, and my talented writing team, I came up with this:

Hope you like it!

12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / More self-abuse stitching on: April 04, 2009 08:24:53 PM
Apparently, the word in the stitch you are about to see is a term for self-gratification. I had never heard of it, so I  was sent a link - http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/onanism - that proves it. I just love learning new things. Smiley

I used a font and border from the Antique Pattern Library - http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/ - I thought it was fitting since this strikes me as kind of an antique term.

Hope you like it!  Grin
13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Dr. Horrible cross stitch/blackwork - The Hammer on: March 22, 2009 08:37:49 PM
Hey everybody! I'm a huge fan of Dr. Horrible, so I did a cross stitch based on it last year: http://www.flickr.com/photos/beefranck/2852472772/

I decided I wanted to do another one, so I came up with a design based around my favorite line in the show:

If you have not had the pleasure of checking out Dr. Horrible yet, please, please do so. It is so worth it. http://www.drhorrible.com/

Hope you like it!  Grin
14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / You Look Nice Today minipop cross stitch on: March 09, 2009 11:53:11 AM
Hi everybody!

I saw this minipop sampler over on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rubykhan/2811826948/
and this one that was posted here by tanechka recently:
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=292980.0

and I was really inspired. I decided to try doing something minipop myself, and what better subject than my three favorite podcast people, the guys from You Look Nice Today? They never fail to make me laugh - something that holds a very high value in my life - so they are currently among my favorite people.

I used some pictures on flickr for details - as much as you can put into a minipop, anyway. In the picture below you can see the guy in the middle, Scott Simpson, had his pant leg hiked up a little and was wearing some crazy socks, so I decided to put that into the stitch just for the heck of it. Smiley

You can see more about who these people are here: http://youlooknicetoday.com/

I think I might do a few more of these, they are quick, easy and a lot of fun. Smiley
15  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 36 ENTRIES / Hell Sampler on: March 01, 2009 08:09:43 AM
Hey crafty peeps! The song I decided to craft is Hell by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. You can see a video of it here - http://www.mtv.com/videos/squirrel-nut-zippers/10096/hell.jhtml I just love the Squirrel Nut Zippers, and oh, the horns in this song! I wanted to make something really special out of it, so I decided to make a large scale sampler. I used samplers from the 1800's as inspiration -one for the Lord's Prayer and one called On Needlework, both of which I saw in this book -  http://www.rubylane.com/shops/suzanstreasures/item/B-150

Here's what I came up with:

I love the frame I found for it:

Here's a close-up of the text across the bottom:

The frame is 8 by 10 to give you an idea of the scale. Hope you like it!

16  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Flight of the Conchords cross stitch on: February 08, 2009 04:21:17 PM
This was inspired by a line in the new Flight of the Conchords song Sugalumps: "All the ladies, they hustle to ruffle my truffle." I love it when I get to expand my euphemism vocabulary.

If you haven't heard the song yet, you can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtbQaJzZh1k

Hope you like it.  Smiley
17  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Balls cross stitch on: January 31, 2009 03:21:54 AM
I first thought of doing this stitch when I saw Dr. Horrible for the first time and this word was used as a poignant way to bring Act I to a close.  I forgot about it and did some other things, but the last few weeks made it necessary for me to make this. In the days before the inauguration, all the morning news shows were all focused on balls. Which ball to attend. Who was throwing the balls. The caption on one morning news show was "The Best Balls."

Of course now all of the news shows are talking about stimulus packages. Hmmm.
18  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Thinking of you blackwork - maturish on: January 25, 2009 06:58:31 PM
Like the last stitch I posted, this is inspired by a song by Pat McCurdy. This one is called I Like Everything and it is my absolute favorite song by him. Smiley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzLB6syPBwo It's something I wanted to stitch for awhile, but I couldn't settle on a design. I finally decided on blackwork.

19  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / I like you best cross stitch on: January 22, 2009 07:45:20 AM
Hubby Jim and I only occasionally agree when it comes to music, but one of our favorite singers we DO agree on is a local guy who sings in bars and festivals, Pat McCurdy. http://www.patmccurdy.com/ If you don't mind driving around the Chicagoland area or venturing up into Wisconsin, you can see him perform almost every night.

This is from one of our favorite songs by Pat, I Like You Best - http://www.patmccurdy.com/tabs.htm?I+Like+You+Best

Like most of his songs, it starts off sweet, but ends up... less so.

Thanks for looking. Smiley

20  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / A stitch for my sweetie on: January 19, 2009 04:44:51 PM
I made this for my hubby today. The words are taken from the song I'm Your Moon by Jonathan Coulton. It makes me think of him because sometimes he's a little less confident than he should be and needs to be reminded how awesome he is. Smiley

I used metallic thread for the stars in the border.
