1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Haters Gonna Hate blackwork on: May 28, 2010 05:08:57 PM
Hi everybody. Smiley

I made this piece for a swap over at the Phat Quarter.

I was inspired by this awesome little gif - http://www.gifbin.com/982918

I used variegated thread and used tried to add a little bit of shading with the number of strands I used, but I don't know if that really came through.

Any feedback or comments are appreciated. Smiley
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Sylvia Plath Stitch on: April 21, 2010 12:58:53 PM
I made this as a sort of stitch therapy. I have been struggling with depression, and this was a way for me to deal with it.

The text is from Sylvia Plath's journal, and I can really relate to it. I LOVE being busy. It's very important to me to feel useful and needed. Unfortunately, I was laid off a year ago, and my job search is still ongoing. While most of my friends pine for a single quiet morning to themselves, I have that every weekday - and I can't stand it. That feeling was the motivation behind this.

Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated. Thanks for looking. Smiley

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Sam & Max cross stitch on: March 10, 2010 05:05:04 PM
Hi everybody! I made this for the Phat Quarter comic swap. Since I don't read any comics besides Sam & Max - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_&_Max - I decided to stitch up a quote from Max, the adorable homicidal bunny.

Hope you like it! Any comments are always appreciated. Smiley
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Cross Stitch on: February 05, 2010 02:02:45 PM
This is based on one of my favorite parts of the book The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:

But the plans were on display

On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.

Thats the display department.

With a torch.

Ah, well the lights had probably gone.

So had the stairs.

But look, you found the notice didnt you?

Yes, said Arthur, yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard.

It's hard to take a good picture because it's a big one - about 4,700 stitches on 22 count fabric.

I hope you like it. Smiley Any thoughts or comments are appreciated. Smiley
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Slap Chop Cross Stitch on: January 19, 2010 03:41:13 PM
Okay, chances are you've seen the Slap Chop commercial. If not, you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUbWjIKxrrs Or, my favorite, the remix, which you can see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWRyj5cHIQA

Anyway, that is what inspired this stitch. Smiley

I put the pattern together from different patterns shared at this blog: http://patternmakercharts.blogspot.com/ - I definitely recommend it for any cross stitchers or even if you want to get started, it's a great resource.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Smiley Thanks for looking!
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / More fun with antique patterns - Soul Coughing/Mike Doughty cross stitch on: October 29, 2009 10:50:47 AM
I saw the man and woman pattern in this blog - http://patternmakercharts.blogspot.com/ - and it made me think of this lyric from the song I Miss the Girl by Soul Coughing.

Definitely check the blog out, it has so many wonderful things! Smiley
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / I'm blue on: October 19, 2009 01:26:29 PM
For some reason lately I've been really drawn to stitching in all one color, specifically different shades of blue.

I did this one using a line from the Radiohead song Paranoid Android. It looks black but in person you can tell it's a nice dark blue.

This stitch was made for the NSFW swap over at the Phat Quarter -  http://www.flickr.com/groups/phatquarter/  The text comes from the book A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. I read it when I was a kid, and this is the only thing I clearly remember from it. I know, weird. But I think it made for a pretty stitch. Smiley

I created these patterns by modifying some antique patterns supplied by this great site: http://patternmakercharts.blogspot.com/ - if you're a cross stitcher, you should check it out!
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / What I did on my summer vacation - lots of pics, a dirty word and lots of links on: October 19, 2009 01:00:06 PM
Oh hai! I've been in lurk mode at craftster lately, and I thought it might be a good idea to change that. So here's some of the things I've been up to:

Ruby42 made a pattern of Mr X Stitch's avatar and I stitched it and sent it to him to celebrate the first birthday of www.mrxstitch.com back in August. I have to hand it to those of you who stitch portraits, they are hard work! You can see a close-up of it that shows the colors a little better here - www.flickr.com/photos/mrxstitch/3788665496/

I made this pattern for The Anticraft's 16th issue. The issue is all needlework projects, so be sure to check it out here - www.theanticraft.com/archive.htm - and if you'd like the pattern, it's available here - www.theanticraft.com/archive/lugh09/sickfuck.htm  The finished stitch that is pictured here was sent to VSC aka Valued Sony Customer, because she inspired it. Smiley

I made this stitch with a line from the song Debaser by the Pixies for Jodi Bloom of So Charmed - www.so-charmed.com/ - for a swap. She liked it. Yay!

I made this for this project - www.flickr.com/photos/skunkbutt/3549788862/ - basically, the person running the project has asked people to stitch their name and where they are from in the style of their choosing and send it along to her. She plans on sewing them all together to make a quilt. Pretty cool!

I made this for Penny Nickels - http://donkeywolf.blogspot.com/ - because she did this very thing for her man Johnny Murder - http://manbroidery.blogspot.com/ - when he made this awesome video, Close Your Robe - www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJWdgyjkqIc

Phew! I feel better now. Hopefully this post wasn't too obnoxious. Just wanted to share!
9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Blackwork LOL cats on: June 27, 2009 04:52:07 AM
Hi everybody! I've been involved in a lot of swaps recently, and I found out yesterday that this piece arrived safe and sound, so I thought I'd post it here!

The gold is satin floss and the white is silk floss. My original inspiration for this can be found here: http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/oh-hai-i-buffed-ur-floor.jpg

Hope you like it! Smiley
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Blackwork for Phat Quarter anatomy swap on: May 18, 2009 11:07:47 AM
Hey everybody!

We had a swap over at the Phat Quarter ( http://www.flickr.com/groups/phatquarter/ ) recently - if you haven't been there yet, go! This is the piece I sent to my partner. I wasn't sure what to do with the theme, which was anatomy, so I surfed the web for inspiration. I found a story from the 16th century at http://www.pornokrates.com/index.html in which a man refers to his package as a "ruthless organ" and I was hooked.

Hope you like it!
