1  Christmas Stocking in Crochet: Completed Projects by Sassy Swing Kitten on: December 19, 2009 07:01:45 PM
Greetings Everyone!

So, the tradition in my family (and as I've heard, several others' as well) is that the great aunt whips up a handcrafted stocking for any new grandbabies.  Well, my nephew Will was born just a few months ago, and sadly a couple years back his great aunt passed away because of brain cancer.  So, Aunt Kaitlin (that's me) took the reigns and said "Hey! I'll make the stocking!  It's not going to look like the knit ones that our great aunt made US...but it will ROCK!"  And so this was born of yarn and hook and tradition.

Here are the pictures aaand my apologies for the unprofessional documentation.  I had to quickly snap pictures so I could get the stocking wrapped and in the mail!

This is the front! Will!

This is the back! Born 2009!

This is the lil Santa Hat!

I used Caron Simply Soft/Simply Soft Eco (as always) and I honestly forget what hook sizes.  The whole stocking was one larger hook, and the santa hat was a smaller one (I know, that totally does not help.  But remember, I wasn't planning on making this stocking, and then I was reminded of tradition. *stress*)

The Stocking
Created by following the Lion Brand pattern located here --> http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/clc-stocking.html?r=1&r=1 with some minor adjustments.

Since I couldn't figure out how to graph the name and year in rows, I crocheted the stocking (the green) in the round.  I did, however, crochet the heel and the toe (white) in rows.  And for those of you wondering about the graphing, I totally winged it.  I grabbed a piece of graph paper and scribbled in pencil marks, erasing and re-scribbling until the letters and numbers were the right size and equally apart (going by the 42 sts that the pattern called for).  I searched through the Craftster Completed Projects as well as Google to figure out how to switch the colors easily.  So if requested I'd probably be able to find the site again, but I didn't bookmark it.  And literally from there I just, did it. Smiley

The Santa Hat
Created by following the pattern located here --> http://cocoacream.wordpress.com/pattern-place/santa-stocking/ I didn't have enough space, or proper colors to create the whole santa but IT'S SO CUTE.

Hope you enjoyed my little post.  Though I've made tons of hats and things, this is my first official time posting! Yaaay!
