1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tote bag for the bride on: July 29, 2009 11:16:17 AM
I was supposed to go to a wedding last Saturday, but I knew ahead of time that I wasn't going to be able to make it. So I made the bride this bag for her to haul some of her stuff around while getting ready on the big day - she told me that she's taken it with her to the beach everyday on their honeymoon.  Smiley

She told me the color scheme was tangerine & white, with bright pinks & greens. I've had this fabric for a while now & was really excited to finally do something with it, because I LOVE it!

Unfortunatelly, it was as difficult to work with, as it is beautiful! & when I went to put my interfacing on, I realized that I had just ironed Heat'n'Bond as my interfacing, which I've never tried before (& I don't even know if you're supposed to use it for that??) So that made it a bit more difficult even & I was kind of nervous, but it turned out fine! And its actually stiffer & feels more stable than if I had used my regular interfacing.

So here it is:

& me, being a dork in my pajamas, "modeling" it

I used my Cricut to make the little taggy on it. (I just HAD to have that thing & it seems like I don't get much chance to use it, so I try to take advantage of it whenever I can! Wink)

I was actually pleased with how it turned out & really tempted to keep it for myself! hah  Cheesy I had fun making it, but it might be a little while before I decide to tackle that fabric again, haha! Ohh, & when I was trying to hurry & finish - sewing at night, without my glasses - I ran a straight pin under my thumbnail, up to my cuticle Shocked OUCH! But I'm quite sure that will not be my last sewing injury!  Roll Eyes

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A few tote bags I've done on: July 16, 2009 02:12:40 PM
I made this one about a year or so ago. My first project with a sewing machine, and my second attempt at making a bag. I used the basic Jordy pattern to go by. This ones kinda small, I found some polka-dot fabric in my bin & then used an old t-shirt for the lining, no interfacing or anything (actually, I didn't even know what interfacing was at the time! lol)

Then one of my old friends was getting married & I've seen some of those wedding day tote bag in stores, you know for the bride to carry around all her goodies while getting ready on her big day! But I though it would be fun to try to make one. I used a pattern that I got at JoAnn's, though I can't remember the name of it now. I later added their wedding date, below the tux & veil, but I didn't get a photo of that. And this is when I discovered interfacing, which I have loved ever since!

The next one was exciting for me, because it was really spur of the moment! I was getting ready to go back to school & wanted a new bag for my books. So I rummaged through my stuff & found this purple leopard bed skirt & some plain black fabric, and then the flowers are just some scrap felt & random buttons.

This is the most recent one I've done. This was my first attempt working with corduroy, first time making an applique, & first time adding a snap.. It took me a little longer, but I like the way it turned out. I finished it just in time to go see DMB =)

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Two t-shirt recons on: July 16, 2009 01:52:09 PM
I found this awesome tie-dye at Goodwill, but it was shaped pretty odd - short & wide, so it didn't have a very good fit. So I made it into a bag of course!

& here is another one, I did same thing - except these photos are before the strap was added, and I don't have any loaded of the full finished product yet

I used the sleeves of the shirts for the pockets on both

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / a couple Diaper cakes & a wreath on: July 16, 2009 01:39:52 PM
I did these a while back, but am just now posting..

This was my first attempt at either, a cake or wreath

This was my first diaper cake

My second attempt..

& the most recent - this time for a boy!

The first 3, I made to give as gifts, & the last one someone else asked me to make for them to give as a gift. I never kept track of my receipts for these before, so when I actually paid attention to my spending on this last one, I realized how much money you can actually put into these things! She requested only a 2-tier though, so it wasn't too bad. They're so fun though =)
5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Long-time-lurker; First-time-poster! on: July 16, 2009 11:27:32 AM
Hi everyone =)
My name is Tara, I'm 21 years old, & live in West Virginia.
I love crafting, & my passion for it is much larger than the amount of craft-time that I get, unfortunately (but I'm sure the same goes for many of you!)
I love this site & the forums, love getting new ideas & tips, and seeing what everyone is making!
I'm still new to figuring out to how to post & whatnot, and I'm looking forward to being more involved =)
