1  Florida in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: February 14, 2011 01:15:57 PM

Florida by thejoysofjess, on Flickr

All done in chain stitch. I've never really done tiny chains before, so I wanted to give it a go and I REALLY like the way it came out. New favorite stitch? (as if anything could take the place of french knot).

2  A whale in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: January 02, 2011 05:22:28 AM

A whale by thejoysofjess, on Flickr

I've seen a lot of people embroider on printed fabric and I love the look, so I bought myself some fabric off of etsy and tada! A whale.

Button trees by thejoysofjess, on Flickr

My husband says trees aren't blue, but I like them a lot.

4  Patchwork! in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: June 28, 2010 06:02:32 AM
I recently got a sewing machine that WORKS so I have been experimenting with patchworks and embroidering on them. This is what I've come up with so far.

I really like the new background to stitch on. Definitely my new obsession. Wink

5  Easy Peasy pelmet boxes in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by thejoysofjess on: June 17, 2010 01:02:42 PM
I'm in serious nesting mode and that means a ton of crafts for my house. My latest one was pelmet boxes for the windows in our bedroom, which were bare before.

A little "closeup" even though it is not that close.

And what they look like hung up!

I used this tutorial: http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2009/09/easy-pelmet-boxes.html and they really were the easiest things ever. Between a Michael's and a Joann's coupon, I think I spent  $20 total on these. 3 yards of fabric for four windows, and two spools of ribbon. I used cardboard we already had instead of the foamboard suggested. They're flimsy, I admit it, but they get the job done and you'd never know they're made entirely of packing tape and cardboard. Wink

6  A family tree in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: April 23, 2010 01:10:17 PM
I was commissioned to make this piece, but I really love it so I thought I would share.

All of the embroidery is stem stitched.

7  Jeep onesie in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: March 07, 2010 05:46:57 AM
My husband has this Jeep that we go rockcrawling with. He loves this Jeep and it's currently off getting even bigger (ugh!).

This is what it used to look like.

This is the ridiculousness that it is now.

And this is my embroidered version of it.

One a onesie for our future kid, lol.

8  Swirly tree calendar in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: September 28, 2009 04:52:38 PM
My second calendar using the blanks I bought from septemberhouse on etsy.

The leaves are chain stitching, the tree trunk is stem stitching. The tree itself is crayon tinted. The rest is pretty self explanatory. It is hanging with little plastic round hoops sewn to the back. I tried my best to match the thread to the fabric, but you can still see where I sewed them in a little bit.

9  Doodle Calendar in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: September 20, 2009 08:46:44 AM

I bought these mini calendar blanks from septemberhouse on etsy. I was at a loss for what to do when I decided to just doodle. It gave me an opportunity to use a bunch of different stitches at once and different colors. I really love the texture and pattern.

10  Velveteen Rabbit in Needlework: Completed Projects by thejoysofjess on: September 03, 2009 03:27:33 AM

I love embroidering children's stories. This is the latest one that I have done. It's done in mostly stem stitch, with back stitching and french knots for the face.
