Ooo, not a fan of whimsy, eh?  Yikes!

Ah, just the word, actually. Once, as a child, I heard Martha use in reference to her Thanksgiving dinner table. Ack! Scarred for life.

That's so cheery!  Looks like that sneaky teapot is hiding under an adorable hat.

Ah, the yarn arts... they're mysterious to me.

...and I bet you thought I was joking about making a tea cozy Cheesy
...and yes, naturally, my tea pot is very sneaky...
...and btw, thank you for not using any derivation of the word "whimsy"

I think I love thee most because ye was made with nearly instant gratification.

Long, long ago I bought this beautiful yarn off the sale shelf at my LYS. Hand painted, soft, gorgeous. Only 3 balls were to be had so I thought "Oh well, I'll knit a scarf." Well, 3 balls proved to be woefully inadequate for even a scarf. Heartbroken, I tossed it into the basket where I toss such things.
...years went by...
Then one bright and beautiful day I tripped upon this fabulous post by SavageHamster
Elated! Inspired! I proclaimed "I shall have me one of these!"
I started digging through my yarn stash and came upon the long-since-abandon ball-and-a-half of my lovely aforementioned yarn. LIGHT BULB!
To the tossing-basket I went and found the abandond "scarf" still on it's lonely needle. I resumed where I had left off using a seed stitch and these funny "finger fringes" and casting off a hole in the middle for the spout:

I gathered up one side edge creating the "finger fringe pom" on top, and sewed up the ends with room for the handle, and so my cozy was complete.

She had a little modesty issue under the bottom fringe so I picked up and knitted a ribbed underskirt which helps to keep out the draft.

So tomorrow my tea will be, well ... COZY!! Grin

I am LOVING this! I have so been needing a tea cozy and haven't gotten past the notion that I needed to sew a quilted one...and not inspired to do so. Then DUH! I have a giant stash of wool and could so easily do this. Too bad I didn't think of this before Christmas because everyone would have gotten one...never too early to start on next year's gifts, huh?
Thanks for the inspiration Cheesy Your's is so fab and fun!

Golly T,
I'm truly choked up just thinking about what happens when inspiration, creativity, talent, and love, in the largest sense, all converge with our desire to connect with another human being...this is a masterpiece and I can only imagine how amazing you must feel about accomplishing this. Congratulations!

I hope all of your Christmas plans with that lucky man work out the way you dream they will...weather be damned.
Be safe and well.
