1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My first Japanese owl on: March 05, 2008 09:22:50 PM
Hey there-

I found a cute and super-easy owl pattern at the following site

It's a complete tutorial on how to make these cuties. I winged it on the pattern pieces!

I filled him with wool and a bit of millet to weight him down. He's made of some wool fabric I didn't know I had and corduroy.

I 'heart' Japanese anything.

Please let me know what you think!
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Ida - a green bunny in a pink bunny dress! on: March 05, 2008 09:17:11 PM
Meet Ida...

Ida rocks my world!

She's made of wool felt and has a felted wool tail (my first felting ever).

She has a great jumping pink bunny sundress and a knit cardigan with a tiny cameo I found.

Yay Ida!

Please let me know what you think!
3  CANADA / British Columbia / Any Happenings in Victoria, BC? on: February 24, 2008 03:12:06 PM
Hi there-

I'm a new immigrant (from NYC) and am looking for fellow craftsy people to hang with in an semi-organized setting. My hubby's buddies aren't much help.

If anyone knows what's up, I'm very into hearing about it!

Thanks in advance!
4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Indonesian puma! on: February 14, 2008 08:53:13 AM

Hi there-

This guy is made with some reinforced cotton print I got off a cruise ship! I have a ton of similar stuff and have been trying to think of what to do with it.

Sorry for the background kinda blending with the puma!

Would love your opinion - thanks for looking!
5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Indian elephant on his way to a party! on: January 30, 2008 03:17:39 PM

Thanks for looking! I made him from corduroy stuffed with wool and embroidered eyes.

His hat and blanket are from sari fabric with silk flower embroidery and glass crystals.

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks for looking!
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / sashiko marriage wallhanging on: January 30, 2008 02:56:47 PM
Hey there-

This is my first original sashiko project. It was a present to my fiance when he traveled across the country in his 1988 Toyota Camry to live with me. It has our initials by the bird.

It's currently hanging in it's unfinished state above our bed. I'm not exactly sure what to do with it and would love some suggestions!!!

The squares are not totally square, which b l o w s, but the sweetie didn't mind.

Thanks! Gillian

7  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / 2nd quilt evah!!! 8 pointed star (from a kit) on: January 30, 2008 02:46:17 PM
It's actually from a kit my mom sent me while I was working on cruise ships. It's a little too "happy" for me, but I'm really excited about it for the following reasons:

-it's a rectangle
-though the quilting is totally messed in a million places, it looks great! (it's just quilted in diagonal squares)
-the binding came out really well thanks to a video how-to on youtube
-it's replacing my fiance's ugly-ass mexican blanket that's all pil-y with the warp showing

Thanks for looking!

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / swallowtail lace shawl from a newbie! on: January 05, 2008 09:08:34 PM
Hey there-

My first project post. To make this shawl was a bit ego-crushing for my knitting abilities.

2pt needles + mohair lace yarn + freakin' hard pattern = curse words

It did eventually get finished, however, and given to my mom who promptly stuffed it in a drawer. No worries though. At least my cat liked it!

Made from an Interweave Knits pattern for "Swallowtail Lace Shawl" a few years ago with a mohair lace weight yarn I found up in Alaska.

I have to say, though, it did get me into the lace thing! I'm working on a pillowcase right now!
