1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Help with pattern, please! on: September 15, 2010 06:44:28 AM
Hi all! I am kind of stuck on my halloween costume this year. Actually, I want to make that dress (only it will be strapless, but that's ok, I can figure that one out!  Wink)
I'm ok with sewing, but when it comes to drafting patterns, that's a whole other story for me!!! Can anyone help me with this? How do I go about taking my measurements and all?
Also, I want it to be panels from top to bottom (not a top + skirt sewn together)

Thanks so much for your help!

2  COOKING / Dessert / Cupcakes!!! on: August 10, 2009 11:41:38 AM
Cupcakes day!!!! Yay!!! I made cupcakes today and my son said he'd help.. yeah, right... he started to DECORATE one and even before he was done, he said that it took too long so he didn't want to do it anymore... I told him to at least finish the one he was doing and, then, he could go play. So, I finally finished them all by my grown self! -_-
Now, to the cupcakes... Vanilla cupcake from scratch, vanilla frosting from scratch and already made fondant (don't have the time OR the patience to make it... lazy me!)

First theme: Animals!

Yup, that's a hello kitty cupcake.. even if you can't really tell... ^_^ And I <3 the panda! It was the first one that I ate! ^_~

Here's the second theme; Mario bros. (of course!)

I kind of like the flower... Bowser looks like a mix between him and Krusty the clown x_x. And the 1 up mushroom is actually the one that my 5 yo decided to make. I was so proud of him! First, because he finished it! And also because he made it all by himself! With NO help! ^_^ (Ok, I'm a proud mom!)

Third theme; superheroes!

The superman one is my absolute favorite!!!! I'm really proud of myself for this one! It's just a shame that I put black food coloring all over the red! -_- Spiderman was the fastest done... a bit crappy, but once eaten, no one will notice! And the batman one.. AHAHAHA!!!! While I was making it, I was like: Screw that stupid bat! And then I thought to myself: never-freakin-mind! It's a bat! or at least, it looks like one... or at least... a cape...... >_<

Last theme; Cute faces!

3  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Question: Sharpies, fake leather and sealing on: October 14, 2008 03:34:40 PM
Hey guys! A friend of mine who is very talented painted my white fake leather shoes with sharpies. Now I would like to seal them (he was scared to seal them himself!  Cheesy)
The thing is, I'm afraid the sharpies will run... I know if I seal them with some spray with alcool they WILL run.... Do you know what I could seal them with and be safe?

I have this Clear acrylic sealer @ home and was wondering if it would do...
on the label it says.. Matte.. ok, but also: Contains acetone, petroleum distillates, toluene, trimethyl benzene, xylene... It doesn't sounds good to me... Isn't acetone used to remove stuff? also, benzene... I dunno!
Help, please?

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Frames, frames, frames... on: April 13, 2008 04:46:50 PM
Look what I made!
I really love my wall now, because it looks so beautiful!
Some of these frames I already had, some I bought at thrifts stores, some I bought at the dollar store. As for the paint, the fabric and the batting, they are leftovers! And the red felt I bought for 0.95$
If you count the glue and the metal thingys to hang the frames, It must have cost me around.... 10$ !!! woo-ooo! Smiley

k 'nough talk, on to the pics!

Front view. The one on the top left is, in fact, an artist canvas, wich I covered with the fabric, using spray glue.

Side view, for the 3d-ness

You can't really see it in those pictures, but they are "upholstered" (that's what the translator gave me...  Undecided It's not the word I'm looking for...)

What do you guys think?

p.s.: sorry for my poor english...  Sad
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / zippered pouch on: March 14, 2008 07:27:28 PM
WWOOooo! I managed to make this!!!
I can't believe it! I even sewed a straight zipper!  Shocked
Thanks to e.r.i.k.a and her amazing tutorial!

Oh, and please, nevermind the clutter behind it! XD

Tassel: (On the bottom right, you can see a part of my logo!  Tongue)

I just want to mention that it is SO not my style! But my mom will love it!  Wink

I made it for my mom's bday. It's on April 4 th. Actually, I'm also planning on making her a matching purse and a matching wallet.
She chose the fabric, knowing I would make her a bag, but I'm going to tell her that I haven't had the time to make it and surprise her with all three of them!
What do you think?
PLEASE, I LOVE Constructive criticism!

Thanks for taking the time to look!  Grin
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Hard bottom bags on: March 08, 2008 06:23:02 AM
What do you use for them?
I used some kind of a flexible plastic sheet, but I only have them in 9 1/2" x 9 1/2"
So for bigger bags, I'm stuck!
I made one with 2 pieces of these, but one of the pieces is moving inside the bag!  Angry (I sewed it between the bottom and the inside)

So, what do you use? And where can I purchase? (I live in Canada)

Thank you!  Smiley
7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Cool pillow (Pics heavy) on: February 05, 2008 03:38:32 PM
I made this for my son:

Looks just like a plain normal pillow here, but there's more...

Close-up of the felt star:

AND.... Here it is! On the other side, there is a "learning thing... like...  Roll Eyes"
You know for him to tie his shoes, zip his zippers and all...

Close-up of my *embroidered* son's name

Close-up of the shoe lace thing

Close-up of the buttons and snaps

Close-up of the zipper

And last, my son's favorite use of it... (lazy as his dad!  Cheesy)

I am actually very proud of this! It started out crooked and everything looked "off". But when I sewed the 2 fabric sides together, I tried to straighten it and it worked! Woooo!  Grin

absolutely EVERYTHING is from Wal-Mart and cost around 10-15$ for everything and I have plenty left for other stuff!  Grin

All your comments are welcome and Thanks for watching!

9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Painting microwave oven... ? on: January 16, 2008 05:27:18 PM
I'm currently working on redecorating my kitchen and I wanted to give it a retro-ish kinda style... So I have this microwave oven:

I like the shape of it for the style that I'm going for, but the color is horrible... So, here comes the question:
Can I paint that thing? Right now it's translucent-y plastic... I don't care if, once painted, it becomes opaque.. I just want it ANOTHER color! Please tell me it's possible!!!  Cry And if it is, please tell me how to do it!  Cheesy
10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Mini socks monkeys! (image heavy) on: January 04, 2008 07:51:18 AM
Hey there! I'm new to craftster and I came across this http://www.web-goddess.org/writing/tutorial/Image0.html tutorial the other day while I was browsing here and thought they would be fun to make... The only problem I had was that I only had new socks that my Bf had just bought me for Christmas and I had thrown away every other (full of holes) ones that I had before... I then had an Idea and went into my 3 yo son's drawers to find socks that didn't fit him anymore! What a find! Isn't he cute?

His name is Pod-Wi (pas d'oue) Which in french means that he can't hear. The story of his ear is that I was finishing him in the car and I lost it! I was so horrified at first, but now it's just part of his personality  Cool

S'more monkey goodness:

And my second socks monkey. Her name is Vie-D'ange (vidange). Which means "Angel life" and also if you play with the words, "garbage". (looooong story!)

And her right butt cheek  Cheesy

And finally here is my son with his 2 new friends! He loves them sooo much, but they were for gifts, so I have to make more for him! That's OK, I don't get tired of making them!

(never mind his full 'o chocolate mouth... It was new year's eve!)

Any comment is appreciated!
