13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Christmas Ornaments... too soon? on: August 05, 2008 02:23:12 AM
very cute!I always promise that I'll start making Christmas ornaments in summer but I always procrastinate Wink ,last year was the only year I was able to finish them by October, but then I forgot were I put them Roll Eyes ...I'm super disorganized Wink
I'm an atheist but I make the Christmas tree just because it's nice (and it's another chance to make something crafty Cheesy ), plus I like to think that it's not only a christian symbol but that it was also a pagan tradition for the winter solstice (at least that's what I know Wink )
14  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: Craftster Spellcheck Fun! on: July 23, 2008 03:39:38 AM
Isn't a pisan (or some other spelling of that word) supposed to mean brother or friend in Italian?

being Italian the only meaning I know of Pisano is someone who lives in Pisa, Tuscany. It's a surname too Wink

18  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Come one come all post your new tattoo IDEAS! on: June 18, 2008 01:40:56 AM
@jakie: I'm studying to become a vet and believe me, you really need to be motivated to do it. At least here in Italy the school is very very hard, time consuming, expensive, and they don't let you see a living animal 'till 3rd year (and the animals you see are the cows that are going to be killed). So go here very motivated and you'll do it Wink !
For the tattoo: I think that being a symbol it doesn't need to be so detailed, in the end it's a graphic symbol that rapresents your passion, and I think that symbols look better when they are simple, because they catch your eye and you are suddenly able to understand what they mean. (bad english, but I hope you can understand Wink )

BTW I'm planning to get a tattoo rappresenting my passion for animals and the fact I'm studying vet medicine too, I was thinking about a little owl on a moon, with "daysleeper" written below it, which is the title of a REM song (my fav group) and reminds of the long periods in which I'll have to stay up all night to study and work. The owl rapresents wisdom and it's the symbol of Athena, so it reminds me of my past studies in liceo classico (high school where you study latin and greek). Plus I would love to work with wild animals and owls in particular.

20  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Why are you Vegetarian/Vegan? on: June 10, 2008 01:47:44 PM
I've been a lacto\ovo vegetarian for a few months right now, but I've stopped eating meat while still eating fish a couple of years ago. I also eat only eggs from my own chickens or from organic farms where chickens don't live in small cages. I still feel very *guilty* for eating milk and dairy products because I know what happens to those animals.
I became a vegetarian because I love animals. I'm studying to become a vet now, and it's a big big pain to me to see what happens in slaughter houses and how animals are treated. They are like machines. Nothing more. Even when they're *well treated* they still have to suffer a lot, especially pigs, and they know that they are going to be killed. Some of them get mad in the slaughter house, especially horses (I know that a lot of people, including me, thinks that eating a horse it's like eating a dog, but here in Italy is considered a normal thing...)
I stopped eating fish for coherence.
I'm considering to stop eating milk and dairies, while I think I'll keep eating eggs, only if I know from where they are from.
