1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Anatomy/Medical swap? on: June 10, 2008 11:23:30 AM
I'd love to participate in this one!  I hope the timing can enable me to send out before July 25th, when I'm off to medical school and crafting time will probably be at an all time low!
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: dressing up a loft bed on: May 15, 2008 07:37:26 PM
Cool ideas, all of them!  I'm lucky in that I get GIANT closets, but I definitely need to get or make some shoe holder things to put in there, especially with yet another order from Aerosoles having shipped today  Grin Grin Grin
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / dressing up a loft bed on: May 15, 2008 02:09:28 PM
I'm moving into a studio when I go back to school, so I plan to buy a loft bed like this one:

I'll probably position it with the head of the bed against the wall, but with the other 3 sides sticking out (there's no corner space to put it like how it is in the photo).  I don't really care for the way the sides look, so I'd like to cover them up in some way.  Simply draping fabric down would definitely be the easiest thing to do, but I'd also like to think about having some kind of harder surface around it.  One idea that I have is to stick panels of hardboard on 2 of the outside sides, and paint/decorate them somehow, either with a flat color, a mural, or by hanging up frames/art/etc.  I also thought about cork boards (lots of bulletin board space woo hoo!) maybe, or fabric panels??

I'm not sure what would be the best way to stick whatever material to the frame... it would have to be some non-permanent way so that I could disassemble the loft again the next time I move.  Or, if anyone has another suggestion for how to make the frame a bit more stylish, I would love it hear that too!
4  COOKING / Dessert / Re: FishCake (literally) on: May 13, 2008 02:10:58 PM
Haha, I'm too tired today, and I read your description as it being a cake for your *granddaughter*.  Then I went to your previous posts to try and find more AMAZING cakes like this one, and I was like "ummm this person must be the youngest grandma of all time".  I'd better get more sleep tonight.  Anyways, this is really incredible!  I always dream of being able to make stuff like this, and I'm so impressed with how detailed it all is.  Are you self-taught or did you take some kind of decorating class?
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: The Science IS Art! swap gallery on: May 12, 2008 06:54:07 PM
I hope that my partner receives soon!  In the meantime, I made a little teaser for superhooker, in order to keep her interest up.  All of the packages have been fantastic!

What's this? It's a knit Atta (leafcutter) ant made by superhooker!  This was something I asked for, and she did a wonderful job.

He hasn't found any leaves in my room yet, but he did spot this adorable little mouse friend that she also send along. Another wish come true for me =)

Here are the gorgeous science magnets!  I love them all, I can't even pick a favorite.

Cute frog ring and tree hair clips!

Really fun extras that superhooker included...  There's two tubs of dinosaur putty, and an egg that will actually hatch a growing snake!

A DNA scarf!  I can't believe how much care superhooker put into this magnificent creation.  It's sooo beautiful and perfectly biogeek-ish.  My coworkers in the lab are so jealous, and it makes me long for these beautiful spring days to end and for winter to return!

Thank you so much superhooker!  You are an amazing partner and I bow to your ultimate craftiness!
7  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Science IS Art Swap! (SIGNUPS CLOSED! Sendouts by 5/7) on: May 09, 2008 06:53:41 AM
I wanted to apologize for not having put up pictures of superhooker's awesome creations yet.  I've got relatives over and work commitments and my room is too messy for me to find my camera to computer cord without some real rooting around. I will be posting pictures very soon! Meanwhile I am *loving* the photos that are already up in the gallery.  Everyone did a fantastic job.
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: One Tiny Thing Shrinky Dinks Swap Gallery on: May 08, 2008 10:53:11 AM
I'm also a big fan of cupcakes!  What a fantastic piece!

I'm also really blown away by the 3D pendant and ring, I had no idea you could make stuff like that out of shrinky dinks (I guess I haven't been reading the discussion closely enough).  Very impressive work!

I have received from superhooker!  And it is a mighty and incredible package!  It was so amazing in fact that I have to step up my swap game before I send hers tomorrow.  Pictures to follow tonight or tomorrow night, since I might wait and take the pictures in situ (aka in my lab).

Thank you superhooker!

I'm finished too!  I'm so relieved I was able to finish on time!  I think I'll have to take a swapping siesta after this, at least from everything but the OTT swaps.
