1  AG doll sweater in Knitting: Completed Projects by elmom on: September 07, 2012 01:43:00 PM
so i'm getting much better at knitting ...but just realized that it's waaay easier to size a doll rather than a human. made an AG sweater for my niece's beloved Samantha and it turned out the best of any project i've done so far. i even learned how to do a picot bind off on the cuffs and waistband and now want to try it on a real sweater. Grin i can find the pattern if anyone's interested. it was one-piece (not in the round) then sewn up. if i can do it, it's easy

2  knit elephant toy in Knitting: Completed Projects by elmom on: June 26, 2012 09:15:43 AM
my daughter's school mascot is an elephant (Tufts Jumbos!) -- and i've been wanting to attempt a knitted toy.... so it turned out OK. the good thing is i put some rice in the body so he sits up nicely, the bad thing is i didn't follow the pattern for the arms and legs.. it was too hard for me and i didn't feel like doing the color/yarn changes. the pattern was: http://www.etsy.com/listing/60839293/pears-the-elephant-pdf-knit-pattern  i just knit tubes for the arms and legs, and i had to add a little brain surgery patch at the back of the head to make it meet. but she's in the mail to my daughter... Grin  (the top photo i used a flash, so that's the truer color)

3  fUGGS in Knitting: Completed Projects by elmom on: April 24, 2012 12:54:00 PM
I've made a few of these (fake)UGGS as baby gifts, finally getting around to posting. I broke down and bought a skein of fake fur/white acrylic to do the trim --and it looks sooo much better than regular yarn. The brown is leftover sock wool --and I made a pink pair for a baby girl! if you google baby knit UGGS the pattern will come up for free... it's quick and easy (but now it's summer) Cheesy

4  first top down sweater! in Knitting: Completed Projects by elmom on: February 09, 2012 01:09:30 PM
this is my first top down sweater--it's from Knitting Pure and Simple. the yarn is "ella rae classic heather" in a nice lilac/purple (much better than my camera phone shows) i liked top down because the shaping/sizing worked well and you don't have to sew anything (badly) together. I would like to do this pattern again in a worsted/bulky thicker yarn, that it is a little more forgiving, eg so you can't see every twisted/slightl;y messed stitch. and my ribbing on the bottom is not as tight as i would like, and the whole sweater could be longer....
can any experts recommend  a yarn I should try? I think I know about guage and could adjust... i have problems with brands/types other than the number (4) designations.
thanks! Cheesy

5  my first ear flap hat! in Knitting: Completed Projects by elmom on: November 06, 2011 02:04:01 PM
it's blurry b/c my son took the pic with his phone for me ... but i successfully learned how to do earflaps! (from youtube i think it was "knit pink or "verypink"") I have lots of problems with gauge and adapting patterns to what i have in my stash.. so any advice re; that is appreciated. also, if anyone has a good adult size ear flap hat pattern that they can post/share; that might help me out...meanwhile; i'm going to give this to the 4 month old next door and tell him to start growing  Cheesy

6  Re: WIP Wednesday - May 25 in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by elmom on: May 27, 2011 10:05:08 AM
OK it's friday and i'm finally posting to WIP Wednesday!!! I needed my daughter's helping resizing pics --i'm finished this cardigan --it's a Lion Brand pattern and the yarn is nature's choice cotton. i liked the yarn, but this is my first cardigan so i'm going to need some guidance sewing it together...it seems big and baggy..and the sleeves say "raglan" so they look like wings-   Cheesy-but i'm just excited that i'm done..i'll try to post when it's sewn up!

7  ugliest sweater ever --critiques please! in Knitting: Completed Projects by elmom on: February 27, 2011 10:50:44 AM
so I'm pretty new to knitting. i did a nice blue heather wool sweater for my daughter that turned out OK, but i now think was beginner's luck!

i think after this i've convinced my (cheap) self that i have to use nice yarn/wool. This is Lion Brand Wool Ease, thick and chunky.
i wanted to do this to see if i could follow a basketweave pattern (i pretty much could) but the sleeves are toooo long and the body (although i followed the pattern) is too short. the armpit is too tight. this is the pattern: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/30306AD.html?noImages=
also, i'm terrible at setting in sleeves... any advice there? I start sewing at the shoulder, fold the sleeve in half to line it up, then sew from the cuff half way up, then sweater body and armpit last. but i do end up fudging in the armpit. I think some patterns are just better than others.
any advice will be warmly welcomed!!  Undecided

8  Re: Destash Swap Gallery sendouts: 1/22/10 in The Swap Gallery by elmom on: January 24, 2011 01:02:05 PM
just received my package from Britters25 -- although some items have been swapped across the country for very similar items (yarn, sticky letters, paper etc) it's always fun to get a surprise package!  Grin The knitting needles have been added to my collection -the markers (very useful!) are in my drawer and the pencils given to my (homework doing) son. Thanks very much!
Hope you like your package!!

9  Re: WIP "Wednesday" 9/29 - Show of your in progress projects here! in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by elmom on: October 01, 2010 12:59:55 PM
you didn't have time to post because you were in LABOR!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! on your new baby!! i'm one of those crazy moms (my babies are 21,19and16) that thinks if you can take a shower and get to the supermarket with a baby --you are doing great!!!

I finished the sweater i was working on for my daughter --b/c she's coming home from college for a short visit this weekend. It's really my first project --after a doll sweater and a few hat experiments.
I used beautiful 100% wool from my snooty LYS so it will be warm (if not fashionable)
I welcome any advice esp. a tutorial on sewing/seaming together and how to not make the bound off neck line so wonky.

thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK with the baby!

10  Re: Birds Birds Birds r2 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by elmom on: June 05, 2010 09:38:49 AM
I received my package from sarah this morning... and it's really nice. here's the group shot of a cool painted birdhouse (which will go right out in my backyard) a piece of birdy paper and owl cutout for future crafting, a painted bird art thing with real feathers -- and a very nice piece of B&W birdy fabric (that I hope to use to redo a chair seat, when I paint said chair black) also 2 bags of Detroit style potato chips that were grabbed by my son for his future use...

i almost forget the cute birdie crochet guy --b/c my older daughter scooped him up
here he is:

thanks Sarah!!

this was my first swap, but I think I'm hooked. my daughter wants to do another one.... Wink
