1  first free motion quilted pillows! in Quilting: Completed Projects by HSchil44 on: April 03, 2009 07:17:08 PM
I just got a darning foot last week and absolutely had to try it. I started with a small block and then figured that I should try an actual project....thus, these pillows!

i'm actually pretty happy with how they turned out. The stitches aren't perfect by any means but i'm sure they'll get better with practice.

oh, i should note that i took these with my camera phone, so the quality kind of sucks...now on to the pics!

2  we're tying the knot! engagement party invites in Weddings and Bridal Showers by HSchil44 on: October 14, 2008 06:24:28 AM
I've been engaged for a whole week and a half and my mother has already decided to plan an engagement party. naturally I took over the invitations. She was going to go and order some but I thought - no way! Why buy when you can make? soooo, here are my lovely engagement party invites!

we're not planning on getting married for about a year and a half (i'm finishing up my third year of law school and I think that perhaps I should find a job before I get married...just a thought) so I was really excited when my mom offered to throw this for us!

Happy planning everyone!!!

3  black/white/yellow bird bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by HSchil44 on: September 03, 2008 07:32:42 PM
I have officially dubbed this style of bag as the "nana bag" as my nana was the first one to ever request such a style from me. Now that i've made a few of them, I wanted to make her a new one as a thank you for all that she's done for me (i received my quilting & sewing genes from her!). she's going to flip when she sees it!

she had mentioned a little while ago how much she loves velcro closures so i thought i'd add that in for her
& it's just big enough to hold a cell phone, keys and some money!

thanks for looking!!

5  black damask beach bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by HSchil44 on: May 26, 2008 11:25:24 AM
I made this for a friend who watched my cats while i was away - i'm so happy with how it turned out although it was seriously tough to create. the fabric is black damask home decor weight and it's covered in clear 20 gauge vinyl. the interior is thinner silver vinyl. no pockets b/c i ran out of fabric, but it's just for carrying things to the beach so it should be ok!

thanks for looking & happy memorial day!

6  2 Spring Bags! [IMG HEAVY] in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by HSchil44 on: April 25, 2008 08:08:59 PM
The first is made with Joel Dewberry fabric. it's all pink & green coordinating fabric (the pics don't due the true color justice)...i'm a huge Joel Dewberry fan....oh & this one i made for myself!

whole bag (it's quilted around the green shape)

top has a bottom separating zipper

inside with zipper pocket

The second bag I ended up giving to my Aunt...her daughter (my cousin) is getting married in August and the colors are pink & orange so i figured it can inspire her while she's helping with the wedding preparations!

whole bag

side view

zipper closed

zipper open!

up close of some of the quilting!

the only thing i probably should have done was put a pocket or two in there, but other than that i'm pretty obsessed with it.

thanks for looking Smiley

8  dinosaur camoflauge messenger bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by HSchil44 on: March 25, 2008 07:54:31 AM
i had made a bag a couple of weeks ago for my boyfriend's little sister...well, apparently his little brother (4 years old) saw it and wanted one too...i can't decide whether it's because he really liked it or because he was just jealous of his big sister...regardless i had to set it right. i found this fabric and got really excited because he's really into "army men." it's the perfect combination of kid and camo.

i used pellon fusible interfacing (#72 i think)...it's really thick...i broke three needles while making it!

thanks for looking :-)

9  "fruity" messenger bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by HSchil44 on: March 08, 2008 08:19:11 PM
This is for my boyfriend's eight year old sister - i'm so happy about how it turned out (minus the fact that it's not completely straight in some parts, but i digress). enjoy!

action shot!

10  Re: i made a bag instead of studying in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by HSchil44 on: February 13, 2008 09:32:13 PM
Very pretty!  How did you do the bottom, if you don't mind me asking, because I really like it.

I don't mind you asking at all! I'm so overwhelmed with all the fabulous feedback. I knew I loved the bag but it's so nice to hear that everyone else does as well.

It's my first bag and I actually think I messed up the bottom...lol. However, I will gladly tell you my process:

The bottom is the same length as the sides - I quilted each piece separately and then put it all together. When I did that silly me forgot that the bottom needed to be a bit smaller to allow the sides of the bag to come around to make the rectangular bottom...SO i ended up making the bottom by pulling the bottom up from the inside to make little triangles in the inside bottom corners (does that make sense??). Next time I will make the body of the bag longer than the bottom. lesson learned!

Here's a picture of the bag pre-bottom (which I actually kind of like too)

Hope this helped!
