1  Two different types of dress patterns - What are these called? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by PerfectEquation on: March 19, 2013 06:41:52 PM
So, I'm making a cocktail-style dress for a friend and I'm looking for a couple of different styles, but I don't know exactly what to search for as far as pattern and I've been scouring the vintage section of Etsy all night now! Send help!

The two styles I'm looking at are these:

(specifically the wider neck. like almost off the shoulder as a sleeve, but not quite? everything i've search off the shoulder is like, legit OFF of the shoulder, hehe)

This is sort of a marilyn-ish dress, which I searched, but everything is coming up halter. Blah.

The full skirt will be easy enough, but I don't know what to call these bodices in my searches, so I haven't really found the right pattern. Getting overwhelmed. If anyone has any pattern ideas, please help! Thanks so much Cheesy

2  Re: Layered Ruffle Dress Question in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by PerfectEquation on: July 12, 2009 01:58:36 PM
Actually the spirals are flounces, in the image they are ruffles. Ruffles are rectangles that are gathered and sewed on. You'll have more luck if you search for tiers or tiered dresses. But yes, make the dress, then embellish with ruffled tiers.

Great, thanks everyone! I tried searching "tiered dress" or "ruffled tiered dress/skirt/blahblahblah", basically variations of that before posting this and it kept giving me things like this:

3  Fabric content help! in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by PerfectEquation on: December 11, 2008 05:04:56 PM
I've been looking everywhere for a fabric like this:

Shiny and black, but not stiff (like a leather).
But...every search I've tried has come up with nothing! Can anyone guess/identify this fabric? I've pored over my fabric swatch book and I've found nothing close Sad

-let me know if this is in the wrong place!

4  What sort of skirt is this? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by PerfectEquation on: November 04, 2008 03:33:50 PM
A line? Circle? I can't tell!
I recently lost this skirt on ebay and I figured to myself, I'll just make one. But I can't really tell what shape it is. Though maybe I could do a circle skirt out of wool?

Thanks for any help Smiley

8  Plaid Fall Jacket in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by PerfectEquation on: October 20, 2006 10:33:08 AM
Okay so...I love plaid. Seriously. Hahaha. And I've seen lots of these plaid jackets around...SOoooo, I made this!

I made it basically like two hoodies (one for the flannel and one for the sweatshirt fabric lining) and put them together, then added the felt appliques, ribbed cuffs and elbow patches.

What do you think?
