1  Minecraft Cake! in Dessert by sushiluvzombie on: October 28, 2012 07:54:11 PM
I've been playing minecraft for a few weeks now, and am completely addicted (I've even dreampt about it), so when my favorite, also minecraft addicted cousin's 16th birthday rolled around, I knew I had to put my newly discovered building skills to the test!
And thus was created......

The Minecraft Cake!

Using a pair of 10" square pans and a few good ol box cake mixes, I baked up two chocolate cakes for the dirt, a vanilla with a touch of black coloring to make the grey stone, and a yellow cake for the sand. And then of course some jello for the water.

Once I had a basic idea and sketch of what I wanted, I mapped out each layer separately, marking each square with a D, S, St or W so that putting each layer together would be a breeze (and it almost was). I then figured out that my magic number for the block size was 1.25", which allowed me to get the most squares out of each cake. I then created a grid sheet on freezer paper and poked holes through each intersecting point with a skewer. After leveling each cake so that it was 1.25" high, I lay my grid on top and poked holes into the cake and used a ruler to cut things as straight as I could, using my map as a guide.

I brushed each piece with simple syrup to lock the moisture in and then set to work on assembling everything. I was very happy to see that because everything was so level, I didn't need dowels or anything to support it.

Between baking and cooling and cutting and stacking, I worked on the paper craft animals. Making these guys was more time consuming than making the cake itself, but my cousin loved them so much that he saved them and has them set up in his room.

And of course, it wouldn't be Minecraft without a Creeper.

Thanks so much for looking! Comments and crit always welcome!

2  Sweeney Todd in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by sushiluvzombie on: May 31, 2012 05:00:54 PM
I made this Sweeney Todd doll for a Tim Burton swap a while ago and completely forgot about it until I was going through some photos not too long ago.

The body is made from felt with my own pattern. The nose is needle felted, the face is colored with chalk pastels, and the hair is hand sewn on yarn. The outfit is made from repurposed clothing and muslin. If I remember correctly, he's about 12" tall.

A much loved and repeated quote for me and my best friend from one of our favorite movies, "Joe Dirt." This was a gift for her when she had to move under unhappy circumstances.

Okay finally I have some time to get pics up of the wonderful package SKooKuM sent me!

First up is a very cute green half jacket/shirt, which I believe is part of the TY Girls sets she was talking about (the jeans were ones that I made for her MSD boy)

She also sent along this very cute little ice cream cone

Next up are these really amazing wings! These things are seriously awesome, and poseable!

Then for my SD boy she made these khaki pants and hawaiian looking shirt, which look very cute on him

And she made these super cute boxers too

And last but not least, a cute little skirt (which unfortunately didn't fit), purse, and shoes!

Alrighty I received the first part of my package from DizzerSpinninRound so now it's picture time! And there are a lot of pictures!

First up is this lovely lady!

Here she is in her lovely blue infinity dress.

She's got double jointed legs and arms so she's super poseable!

Here she is in her super cute lolita style skirt.

She came with a second skirt as well (which I pulled up to use as a mini dress)

Close up of the dress and super cute owl necklace.

She took a little break to do a bit of sunbathing between outfits.

And if one poppet weren't enough, there was an adorable little baby poppet as well!

Here she is settled in her little basket.

Showing off her cute red diaper.

Here she is in her adorable little bunny jumper and sandals.

And here are the two sweeties together.

Close up of the two awesome shrinky dink alice pendants

And a close up of the cupcake button on the pouch. Isn't it cute?

And here's the card DizzerSpinninRound sent as well as some blank cards

And tons of lace! yay!

PHEW! Okay, that was a lot! I cannot possibly imagine what else DizzerSpinninRound is going to send me, but I can wait to see what's in part two of my package!

Alright I got my awesome package from Chrislea the other day, so here're the goods!

Here's the first half!
A cute little Vassalord themed box, the sweetest little watercolor painting, two manga and some stickers made out of cut outs from Vassalord.

The inside of the little box.

And finally, an awesome checker board set! I can't imagine how long it must have taken to cut out all the little squares, it's so amazing! Oh, and of course the Pucca, which was immediately ripped open and consumed XD

Thank you so much Chrislea! I love everything so much!
