1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / What to do with a ballet recital costume.... on: March 01, 2009 05:45:01 PM
I have this lovely, very classical-looking costume. It is a deep wine red, is made of a sort of velvety material, and has a generous, flowy (not at all rigid) tutu made out of soft tulle. The leotard part is a knit, without much shaping (seeing as many ballet dancers are stick-thin, I suppose??), and it comes up just above the bust, but has a sort of v-neck cut into it. The v-neck is trimmed with this really sequin-y silver trim, which continues up over the shoulders to become the straps. There are also clear plastic straps sewn in.
I'll post a picture when I can.  ^^

My question is, what sort of thing/s can I do with it?

The lacy-ness is lovely.

May I ask where the pattern is from?

That is definitely one of the most amazing knit things I've ever seen.

Is it knit all in one piece, or is it made of a hat, ears, and a horn sewn together?

That's really cute. I like the color.

I think it looks great as-is. The fabric is absolutely perfect for this project--Where did you get striped jersey? I've never seen it anywhere. (But perhaps I haven't looked hard enough.)

I'm a Maya Angelou fan, too.

The applique is done quite well--it's beautiful.

That's lovely. I personally love the frayed edges--very quaint.
