1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Sparkly Bird Cocktail Hat on: December 03, 2010 02:09:37 AM

Here's yet another bird hat.
I used an art deco color palette on this one, black, white and silver.
At first my thought was to go for just the bird and veiling but since it's silver it doesn't
have the same impact as the red bird I used in my previous post and the hat needed
something more so I added the sparkly Orchids.

I was wearing it the other night when we went to a rather posh club in central London.
The compliments were never ending. Smiley

2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Nesting Bird Cocktail Hat on: November 26, 2010 06:08:24 AM
I do believe that this little hat is the cutest one I ever made.
(If I'm allowed to say so myself.)
I made the feather tail myself, it looks much more authentic that way.
I used veiling as the birds nest.

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Revamped Girls Dresses (Lots of pictures) on: November 24, 2010 01:54:50 AM

One of my favorite projects is to turn little girls dresses into skirts
for myself. And aprons.
I usually get them dirt cheap at car boot sales, that way I haven't
wasted money if I fail. Smiley

Here's some pictures of what I've made.
I wish I'd taken before and after pictures on all these projects...

I made the heart pockets myself.
I wanted a 50's house wife look to it.

Cute apron, I made the heart pocket myself.

(I go for dresses from 6-9 years.)

Okay, here's a quick "tutorial" for a skirt.
I cut the dress off under the armpits, then I zic zac the edge so it won't fray.
Then I fold the "waistband" and stitch it onto the seam that's already between the
skirt and the waistband.
Then I close the open bit on the band and add a button and a button hole.
That's pretty much it.

For ONE heart pocket I just cut out two hearts (I use the top of the dress that I cut off.)
Zic zac the edges, then iron on interfacing on one of the hearts, stitch the hearts
together and add lace or ric rac.

Sorry for the awful tutorial but English isn't my first language and I'm not very
good at describing things.  Tongue

For next time I might do a picture tutorial.
4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / X-mas Cocktail Hat on: November 24, 2010 01:29:16 AM

For this one I used a red straw base and adorned it with vintage X-mas
decorations and green pom pom veiling.
It's nice to be able to reduce the carbon footprint by reusing old stuff
both for home and craft and I try to do this as much as I can.

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Two Butterfly Cocktail Hats on: November 22, 2010 09:19:26 AM
I made these two cocktail hats last night.

For this one I used a black straw base and adorned with a gold glittery butterfly and gold veiling.

For this one I used a red straw base and adorned with a red glittery butterfly and gold veiling
and attached red pom poms to it.
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Very Cherry Cocktail Hat on: November 21, 2010 08:45:22 AM

Hi again all you crafty people.
It's been a while but it's good to be back! Smiley

Here's a cocktail hat I made back in March.
I used a black sinamay base that I adorned with plastic cherries,
red cherry blossom and red pom pom veiling.
7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Revamped Monkey on: November 21, 2010 08:32:36 AM

I found this monkey at a car boot sale for 20 pence.
She's a Hawaiian monkey but she didn't have the skirt so I decided to revamp
her and give her to my friend Elaine as a pre-wedding gift.
Elaine has got both the Hawaiian monkeys (male and female) so I thought I turn
her into a pirate since the theme of her hen night was pirates.
I'm very pleased with the result.

And yes, Elaine loved her.  Grin
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / 1940's Inspired Hair Combs With Cherry Blossom (two different pairs and colors!) on: August 17, 2009 11:59:34 AM

I'm always gluing hair flowers and these combs is just two of many I've made over the years.
My favorites are the green ones because they really have the 1940's feel.

These cost me around 50 pence/pair to make.

I use Bostik All Purpose glue and small clamps for all my hair flower projects.

Thank you for looking!
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / 1940's Style Summer Set, Sun Top & Shorts on: July 30, 2009 03:06:27 AM
I made the top two years ago and the shorts last year.
I had all the intentions to post this summery set but I totally forgot in the end.

I made both the top and the shorts without a pattern, I did my best to copy a top
and shorts I already had.
The fabric I used was actually a kids bed set I found on sale a long time ago.
I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.  Grin

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Naughty Knickers on: July 23, 2009 11:46:28 AM

If you don't get or like the pun, too bad.

1. I bought a pair of white knickers at a local store.
2. I washed them to remove chemicals, as you should before printing.
3. I bought a transfer paper at my local hobby supplier.
4. I put the transfer paper in my printer and printed the motif.
5. I ironed the motif onto the knickers. I followed the manufacturer's
directions of how long I needed to iron on the print for best result.
6. I made a bow and attached the bow onto the hem.
