1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / personalizing a moleskine journal on: December 23, 2008 02:57:53 PM
I bought a sleek moleskine journal for my  uncle, but it misses something!
Any ideas on personalizing it or adding a twist?
He's a rich man who has everything, so this was a last-minute idea Smiley Hope you can help me

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / backing a knit scarf with fleece on: November 26, 2008 01:37:02 AM
I'd like to back my knit scarf with fleece, because the back isn't that interesting and it would add some thickness.
It's this scarf: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/86/241975173_6fcbe1c8d1.jpg
It's not done yet, but I want to finish it before Christmas, and give it to my boyfriend. It's my first real knitting project!

I was wondering how I would go about backing it with fleece. Is is a good idea to begin with?
Should I block it, what sewing technique should I use ...
I'm a beginner in knitting and sewing.

3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Cable Hat by the lake on: September 25, 2008 06:10:09 AM

I just came back from a perfect holiday in France with my boyfriend. (Provence to be exact) It was a more laidback holiday because we had spent the whole of August exhausting ourselves on our bikes, riding through the whole of France, 1600 kms. So this September I took my hooks and yarn with me and by the lakeside, in a deliciously calm and beautiful environment, it was perfect.

The blue yarn is from the charity shop and was pretty old. The name is 'Nadine'.
I also used some Phildar Charly yarn, which is cheap but good acrylic.

I used this pattern: http://rheatheylia.com/index.php?page=patterns&id=5

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / personalizing an umbrella on: September 01, 2008 03:20:38 AM
I'd like to pimp up an umbrella as a gift to my boyfriend for his birthday, because we love taking walks in the rain. Does anyone know what would be the best materials to use for this?
I live in Belgium, so I don't have access to some products.
Would normal fabric paint work? I'd like to stencil our names and some images onto the umbrella.

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / alphabet letter pattern problem on: April 30, 2008 02:57:52 PM
Hi craftsters!

I was working on this pillow for my boyfriend Bart. http://www.wovenspun.com/indexmain.htm (the letter B)

I'm having trouble understanding the pattern.
I'm at this part of it:

Return to marked stitch
Row 11 join w/ sc in first stitch.  Sc in next 21 sc (22 sc)
Row 12 Dec over first 2 sc, sc in each sc to end (21 sc)
Row 13-15 sc in each sc to end (21 sc)
Row 16 Dec over first 2 sc, sc in each sc to end (20 sc)
Row 17 -22 sc in each sc to end (20 sc)
Row 23 sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc (21 sc)
Finish off

I don't get where I have to crochet exactly, or where this part will go in the letter.
Actually, I don't get what part in the pattern I have crocheted until now! Cheesy I'm clueless and frustrated.

This is my work up to now. (I had to finish off there on top, that is where I ended)
It looks better in real life.

The paperclip is the stitch marker.

Thanks! I hope someone can help, for the sake of my boyfriend.

6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Cassette cover + basic bird on: November 16, 2007 02:22:35 PM
So I made this cassette cover for a tape trade I'm having with some friends. I came up with this thing myself and I'm also making another one for someone else. Hope you like it!

And here's a basic bird I made.

It's actually hot pink, but it doesn't show really well.
Thanks for looking!
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Long grey shawl on: November 16, 2007 12:23:17 PM
Yay for shawls! I finished this more than a week ago and have been wearing it non-stop!

I used this pattern: http://www.knitting-crochet.com/crochet/lonopesha.html
and also used 7 balls of Phildar 'Charly' yarn (cheap but yummy acrylic, this project cost me less than 7 euros),
and a 3 mm hook.
I wear it as a scarf, mostly.
I Hope you like it!

8  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Simon & Garfunkel and Bram shirt on: November 16, 2007 11:22:13 AM
So, I absolutely love Simon & Garfunkel!
I made this stencil from the Bookends album.

This is another shirt I made with a friend of mine. Whose face? It's Bram, a friend of mine. We thought he looked like Rafael Nadal, the tennis player. I'm a Nadal fan, so I wanted to make some fan shirts. But we used my friend's face instead. We made four, this is mine.

Yeah, the shadow of my camera. Sigh.

Thanks for looking!
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / gift for my cousin on: November 16, 2007 10:23:09 AM
So, I have to buy a christmas gift for my cousin this year. The names were picked at random. It's frustrating that I didn't get a girl, that'd be SO much easier!

My cousin Arnaud is 14yo, lives in Paris (he's french), is a pretty tough guy who can be mean but also really sweet. He plays table tennis and a lot of computer games. He's just a boy, yeah. I'm finding this really difficult.
If he were a girl I'd just crochet him some lacy shawl Smiley

Any ideas?
