here's the almost finished project, still need to seal them with something.  i ended up just using black foam board as the base because it was easy to cut to the size i wanted it

I am wanting to create the following 2 pieces of art  Roll Eyes but I am new to crafting.  I have paint chips already cut into the little squares, about 1x1 in.  I am just unsure of the best way to glue them down, I noticed people having problems with them curling up on other posts, as well as what is the best type of background to use?  My original idea was to use a canvas, but i thought there may be a better material?  I had already figured on using something (a varnish?) to paint over the completed project when I'm done, but not comletely sure of what and how lol..  any tips, ideas, and suggestions will be VERY helpful since I'm a newbie to all this lol Grin

I was Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas!

I completely made my costume from plain fabric i bought at the fabric store.

First time I have ever sewed something together... no pattern either lol!  I just laid out an old dress i had, and then cut the fabric to the shapes i wanted and pinned them together laying on top of the old dress.  once i got the front and back assembled, i sewed the top shoulder seams together and then pieced the sides together with some black satin binding to hide the parts that didnt match up lol.  then once it was all sewed together i used black material paint to add the designs on each section.

the stitches on my face, arms and chest were done with black liquid eyeliner and blue eyeshadow.  the stitches on my legs were made on white thigh highs.  I used a permanent marker, but to avoid having the lines seep through the fabric and stain my skin while i drew them, i wrapped my legs in wax paper, then put on the tights, and then drew the lines.  Then i used the same eyeshadow to go over the stitches while i wore the tights.  (i didnt wear the wax paper with the costume lol, only for prep)  then i added the black&white stripped socks and black flats.

i tried making my own wig, but it ended up wayyyyy too heavy so i bought the disney wig at the last minute.  it was too thin tho so i added extra yarn so you couldnt see the net through it.

Then to complete the costume, i carried a wooden spoon, a little jack doll, a basket with jars labeled frogs breath worms wort etc, and a bouquet of dead/black flowers in it..!  i got sooooo many compliments, and quite a few older people asking if i was a gothic raggedy ann lol... *shrugs* Roll Eyes

Another costume that I designed and helped make was for my coworker who was prego.  she didnt like anything she found online or in stores so i found an idea online about a prego skeleton and we ran with it!  i could never find a picture of what we wanted, so i used clip art bones and we traced them on to white felt.  then we fabric glued them onto a black shirt and pants that she had.

and last but not least, my boyfriend and another coworker wanted to be lenny and squiggy from laverne and shirley.  so we used the left over white felt to make the letters for lenny's jacket, and picked out the rest of their clothes to complete the outfits... not as much craftiness involved but everyone turned out great!!!

My friend and I decided to be space chicks after I came across the inspiration for my costume on this site... https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=61074.0  we thought it was a great idea, and cheap to boot lol!!!  sooo we did all this work and it turned out I was the only one who wore it LOL... but we're going to do it again next year.  I used a pleather top I had laying around, a $2.00 leather skirt I got at the thrift store, some boots i had in my closet, 2 pairs pink panty hose from the costume store (one cut up for arm warmers), a pink wig, and pink antennas I made in order to complete the costume.  As you can see I covered the clothing and boots in the chrome duct tape... it was sooooo hot, I couldn't bend and it was a little hard to breathe but I looked good so what does it matter right Wink here's some pics, hopefully I can figure out how this works... here goes nothing!

this is me putting on my pink makeup before i got dressed, the camera kind of washes it out but i was very pink Smiley

this is a long shot minus the antennas

another long one

here you can see the antennas

moreee makeup

space "tattoos" aka stickers lol

I got soooooo many compliments Smiley I loved it, it was fun and not expensive

you can almost see my "ray gun" aka 75 cent water gun lol

OH and I also made my boyfriend a space guy costume, but he didnt end up wearing it so I didnt get photos... basically he had a dark green army jumpsuit which I put random strips of lime green duct tape on, a paintball mask covered in chrome duct tape with antennas, and a "jet pack" which was really his belt thing that holds the canisters of paintballs

this is the only pic i got, it was from the night i finished making it
