It would be hard to duplicate without a more detailed photo.  But I am guessing that it is all bias cut silk chiffon, possibly multiple layers with a rolled hem, and stitched together at the center using a ruffle foot (I cannot remember if it has a different name or not).

Yes! Wear heavy rubber gloves!  I have some spots on my hands that are just now healing from hand felting.. it is ok, I didn't need that skin anyway.

You might have to buy a dehydrator, otherwise you will have to wait a week or two  for the stuff to dry without one (and then I think you run the risk growing mold).

I have no idea how they do it, but this is what I would do: dry the fruit, then dip the front half in resin and let dry, repeat for the back.... taa daa!

I don't know how to cure them, but I find that clove drops (candy) give a nice numbing sensation.
