1  Re: Altered Tea Tin Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by camelama on: March 11, 2017 03:49:27 PM
And now wish me joy of my fantastic tin from Wulf! Boy, is this tin spot-on for me. It's like I ordered it custom made!

I have been a sailor all my life, and fell hard in love with the incredible historical fiction by Patrick O'Brian, about the British Navy in the Napoleonic era. While that might sound dry to non-sailors, the series has been called "Jane Austen at sea" because of what lovely storytelling is contained therein. I highly recommend the first two books to give the series a try - "Master & Commander" and "Post Captain". And if you like movies better, the Russell Crowe film "Master & Commander" is another way to experience the world of POB (as we call him).

Er, um, that is, TIN! Sorry, my little hobby horse. Wink Short version, I looooove tall ships and other vintage wooden ships.

So imagine my delight to open the package and see THIS!!!

It fits right in to my nautical themed fireplace mantel... (of course, complete with sparkle ball cat toys left there by the feline crew members. Sigh.)

The top has a windvane that turns! SO COOL! And it has three different storage spaces. The main space:

And then two tiny drawers underneath:

The different scraps around the tin are so great:

And what is this on top, wulf? Is that part of a bellhop bell? I love the cut-out design.

It even has the sniff of approval from the crew members of this ship!

You mentioned no idea of what to store inside - well, so far it is a great place to store the key to my parents' wedding clock, seen behind the tin!

(The drawers & doors close better, I didn't realize I hadn't closed everything up tight in the photos)

I expect it will be a place for small sentimental tokens of adventures I will have, like when I go sailing on a 1920s wooden schooner this summer in the islands here in Puget Sound.

Thank you so much. I will be flaunting this to my tall ship friends for sure. Muah ha ha ha.

As they say in the books, a flower upon your head!

I am so glad you enjoy it, Sonjaboo!

The hive on top is actually a vintage Jello mold tin. I used ModPodge and a few different shades of tissue paper. I am hooked on vintage molds, now - such fun to use!

I will have photos of my tin from Wulf up tonight or tomorrow, depends on when the sunbreak happens in our rainy days.

OH MY STARS AND GARTERS. EdelC sent me such an incredible swap item!

Because I live on the shore of Puget Sound, I spend a lot of time birding & cooking out & camping & contemplating on the shore ... and on a whim I asked for a beach/shore quilt, something to sit on or wrap up in as I watch the sunset, something to eat a picnic lunch on, etc. I thought, who would be crazy enough to make that?

EdelC would be, that's who! Wink

As you will see, the cats have put their paws of approval on the quilt already.

I continue to have photo issues on Crafster, so you can find many more on my flickr:

I love how she incorporated all the parts of the sweater - shoulders, ribbing, yokes, etc. And I love how some pieces are asymmetrical, how the cabling is offset in some squares. I love all the different textures! All the different pieces and patterns. And it is patriotic colors without being obnoxious! Wink And the funky green backing that is like fleece corduroy. And the hand stitched designs in the squares! And the edge stitching. And the side strips. And and and and and!

I hope to get pictures of it out in the wild this weekend, unless we get another snowstorm...

I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!!!!

I am snuggling under it right now, with both kitties underneath with me. We are warm and cozy and happy!

THANK YOU EDELC!!!!!!!!

I received today! Well, actually last week, but i wanted to finish mine before opening!

Bigbangmomma made me a lovely little thread box!

Top view:

Side view, the top has a nifty elastic loop to keep the top on:

And inside is a herd of elephant thread holders:

Inside the top of the box is fabric that can hold a couple needles

It's so cute! I don't have a true traveling embroidery project bag, but now I can use this, and just pop it and my hoop into a zip bag! Yay!

Thank you Bigbangmomma! It's so cuuuuuute. And the lellefunts are so colorful whenever I open the box! Smiley

I have received four ornaments so far! In April I adopted two one year old cats, one of which is now 20+ pounds ... so I am not yet sure if I will actually put up a tree. He doesn't mean to be destructive, he just doesn't realize how huge and destructive he is. Heh. So the swap ornaments are probably going to just hang out on the mantle this year. Wink

Thank you all, I like them so much!

10  Re: Sweat Shoppe ORNAMENT Swap Round 6 (signups end 10/17, send by 11/17) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by camelama on: October 04, 2015 05:46:58 PM
Ok, I made my practice ornament! I'm going to make a variety of cats holding holiday items. Present, wreath, candy cane, jinglebells on a ribbon. Though not making black again. UGH, black thread on black felt! Couldn't see a darn thing!  Grin I've got a whole range of colors for different kitties - tiger, white, gray, siamese, brown, orange, stripey, and spotted.

Some of the felt I have for making kitties:

The final version will be much better, these were just practice runs. And the kitties will be a stuffed a bit, to make them more 3D.
