1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / My completely redecorated first home on: January 25, 2009 08:47:24 PM
I just bought my first house in June, 2008. When I first walked in to the house I knew it was perfect...or would be, after a little elbow grease. After several months of paint in my hair (literally, people at work would know what room I had worked on the day before by the color in my hair), calluses on my hands, and the awesome side effect of losing 20 lbs (squee!) I finally finished. Well, with the inside. The garden is my next big task.

There are waaayyy too many pictures to put in here, so I'm going to link to my flickr set below. But just to give you a taste of what I was working with...here are some before and afters of what was the orange, wallpapered kitchen:

No, my friends. Your eyes aren't lying to you....the ceiling was also painted orange. Snazzy!

I'm incredibly proud of how well my house came out. I'm also in love with the fact that I have a dedicated craft room - probably my favorite room in the house. Please let me know what you think...Thanks!

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Christmas Stockings for Grandma and Baby! on: January 25, 2009 06:31:24 PM
I planned on making far more stockings this year, but with all of the other gifts I was making that so wasn't happening. So here are the two that got done. One for my friend's daughter's first Christmas:

And the other for Grandma:

Hopefully I'll plan better and make several more before next Christmas...
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Mom's Embroidered Christmas Pillow on: January 25, 2009 06:18:03 PM
Here's a pillow I made for my mom. I'm really new to sewing (I only learned how so that I would have more flexibility in embroidering) so it's pretty basic. I found the embroidery pattern on Needlecrafter, and the pillow was kind of built around it.

Here's the front:

The back - it's a basic envelope style, which bought me some time before I have to learn how make a buttonhole  Wink:

4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Quilted Embroidered Wall Hanging for Baby on: January 25, 2009 05:58:50 PM
I wasn't sure if I should post here or the quilting board, but I figured since the embroidery is the star of the show I'd post here. This is a wall hanging I made for my friend's new baby daughter. Her nursery has a lot of birds in it, so I ended up using some patterns from the lap quilt in Doodle Stitching (from Aimee Ray - a really excellent and highly recommended stitching book).

Here is the full wall hanging:

And here is detail of the two embroidered panels:

5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / What feet should I ask for for Christmas (Brother XL2610) on: December 08, 2008 04:24:18 PM
Hello! I'm a sewing noob (I embroider and got the machine so I could make my own pillows and bags rather than find the perfect ones to stitch on), but I've found that I really love it. My friend picked me in a holiday swap, and she wants to get me some crafty stuff. I'd really like to get some new feet for my sewing machine, but since there is a dollar limit I want to make sure I get the most useful ones first.

I've started to do some very very basic quilting and would like to do some more. I've been thinking about a walking foot, a guide (to sew parallel lines), a darning/quilting foot, or a 1/4" piecing foot. Any thoughts on what might be most useful? Or did I miss some sort of awesome accessory that I NEED to know about?!?  Grin

Thanks for the help!
6  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Grandma's Tattooed Pillow on: December 23, 2007 07:12:22 AM
I've been making felt ornaments as additions to people's gifts this year, but I decided for Grandma to make her a pillow. I used the Tattoo Your Towels pattern (what Grandma doesn't know won't hurt her...she's cool, but not "tattoo" cool...) for the birds and banner, and the letters are my own. I'm so so so pleased with the way it came out. I can't wait to give it to her!

Hope you like it!

7  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Felt Christmas Ornaments on: December 17, 2007 06:15:23 PM
I decided to make embroidered felt ornaments for my family this year. I was traditional with most family members (snowflakes, trees) but I knew I could get a little fun with my sister-in-law and brother. Jamie got a chihuahua (from the Chi Chi Fever pattern):

And Bill got a (modified) skull and crossbones (from the Tattoo Your Towels pattern):

8  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Newbie posting first embroidery - tattooed towel on: November 13, 2007 08:23:38 PM
Hello, all! I've done some cross stitch in the past, but was never interested in embroidery until I found Jenny's site. I decided to post photos of my first project - it's a tea towel done using the Tattoo Your Towels patterns. It still needs to be washed and ironed, but I'm feeling really proud of it so I had to share. Plus, I've gotten a ton of inspiration and information from trolling this board, so I figured it was only fair.

Thanks for looking!
