31  Re: yeah, yeah, my beer didn't really need a sweater in Knitting: Completed Projects by melidomi on: July 04, 2004 08:37:29 AM
I made one for my dad -it's felted and has BEER fair-isled in (that made it need to be bigger, hence the felting)

Pretty snazzy, don't you think?

re: travellers,
how about a travel document case type deal.  With a slot for tickets, a slot for passport, and maybe matching eyemask and a little pouch for earplugs?  I made a simple zippered pouch for that purpose for myself and embroidered a little plane on it:

You could do a wallet style one with the slots (ooh, and credit card sized slots for frequent flier cards) and a matching little bag for the eyemask/earplugs.    Having one place for all the stuff you need at the airport is really handy - especially now that you need to whip that stuff out at every corner.

35  Re: Apron Swap (Sent by May 31) in The Swap Gallery by melidomi on: June 11, 2004 06:04:28 AM
Due to a last minute cancellation, I ended up with two swap partners, and hence, two fabulous aprons, here they are:
IndiaRomeo's snazzy hostess apron:
silloh_77's swinging cocktail apron: (couldn't get the self portrait to work out on this one)
They both arrived the same day and were crammed into my tiny apartment building sized mailbox, so they're a bit wrinkled, but they are both lovely!
Thanks so much!

IndiaRomeo asked me to post a pic of the apron I sent to her:

It's made of a brightly striped dish towel, folded up and sewn into little pockets with seam binding on the sides and as a waistband, as modeled by my rocking chair Wink

ALSO please remember to pm me (and the person who sent it) as soon as you get your apron  (and if you haven't sent it yet, or told me you've sent it, let me know about that, too).  I wouldn't want anyone to be put on the bad swapper list by mistake!

37  Re: diaper bag emboidery in Needlework: Discussion and Questions by melidomi on: June 08, 2004 11:27:49 AM
you could do one of these

another thing I've wanted to do (but haven't yet) is a 'skull and crossbones' but with a ball of yarn and knitting needles.  Arrr!  I be a knitting pirate!

38  Re: Elann Yearly Sample - any opinions? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by melidomi on: June 02, 2004 05:46:01 AM
I signed up for the 'knittable samples' thing - which comes once a month (not once a week, maybe ther's another one?) and I just got my first set yesterday.

That's a regular 8.5x11" piece of paper they're attached to.  Each little skeinlette is tied to a line describing the yarn.  I like how they are all in coordinated colors.  they seem to be about the size of skeins of needlepoint yarn.  If that helps at all...

Their newsletter also comes with litle 2" pieces of each new yarn in each color. so you can touch them and see what they look like in real life.  Any thoughts on what you could do with 2" pieces of yarn?

39  Re:What are you making your Mum for mothers day?? in Mother's Day by melidomi on: April 28, 2004 10:26:54 AM
Finished my mom's day stuff, here's the haul:

knitting bag, circular needle holder, and knitting notions pouch.  I put lots of nifty features inside the bag, like needle holders, cell phone pocket, and snaping loops for guiding yarn, holding keys, whatever.

40  Re:Knitting bag in Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller by melidomi on: April 25, 2004 07:21:37 AM
My mom's a knitter, too, and a while back I made her the roll your own needlecase:
and mailed it to her (but she hasn't gotten it yet!!!  Angry  )
So for mother's day I decided to complete the SNB suite of sewing projects for her:

As you can see, I did the circular needle holder and the knitting bag from the book and I also made her one of my little knitting notions bags with embroidered icon.  I made some additions to the knitting bag - you can see the pattern pocket in the above picture.  I also added some features to the inside:

From left to right: spare needle holders, several snap open loops for attaching things/ guiding yarn, cell phone pocket.
