11  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Mushroom Swap Round 3 anyone? on: March 26, 2008 10:10:41 AM
*Sign ups are open!*

Anyone interested in a mushroom swap?
I can't help it, shrooms are so cute! I think it would be a great and really fun swap theme!

Crafted items could be anything really - plush mushrooms, shroom pincushions, polymer clay charms, knit/crochet shroom scarf, embroidered/stenciled/applique mushrooms on bags/cozies/placemats/aprons/shirts/pillowcases, mushroom lap quilt, ATCs, altered art books, paintings, drawings, buttons, felted, shrinky dink, shroom inspired jewelry, etched glass, note cards, windchimes, wood/rubberstamp carved shrooms, mushroom recipes (yum!), and so on... Mushroom crafts could be inspired by themes like nature, fantasy, Nintendo or what have you.

Here is the Mushroom Swap round 2 link, gallery, discussion and round 1 link and gallery.

Anyone interested? Suggest a timeline? Size of swap (preferably low-stress 1-medium-minimum?).
I could possibly organize Smiley

12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / tiny cloud needle book on: February 10, 2008 01:56:37 PM
I used to carry my needles around in a simple rectangle of felt folded in half like my mother always did. Overtime, I started adding other sewing essentials to the felt like snaps, pins and safety pins until it became a crowded mess! I was fed up so I put together this teeny needle book for my sanity and daily dose of cute! It's about 2" by 2 1/2" ~

inspired by merwing's lovely embroidery <3

my crafty friend saw it and wanted to steal it, but it's mine!
I'll be making one for her soon, with a snowman cuz she loves snowmen!

13  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / advise to sell on own website or etsy? on: January 25, 2008 05:22:08 PM
please help!
I'm going to sell my crafts online (my number one new year's resolution) and I plan to launch before February.
Would you suggest to set up a shop on my personal website or to set up an Etsy shop?

I was thinking of the pros and cons of each...
Etsy has a clean and easy to navigate layout that's ready to go, there are many buyers who surf Etsy for handcrafted things to buy, has a feedback section, and is a great community for crafters.  However, Etsy charges a listing fee and takes a cut of your profits, and there is a lot of competition.
On my own website, I can design the layout however I want and have more control over look/feel/navigation of the site. However, it will be harder to market myself and maintain the site on my own.
Either way, I plan to use PayPal (or would you suggested another method of accepting payment?).

I love to craft beautiful and useful things for people.  I mostly knit and crochet items for charity and would like to set up a way to fund my passion.
I have years of experience in webdesign but not shop design.

Can some of you talented crafty business gurus share some of your experience and advice?
14  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / baby boy shower on thanksgiving~ on: November 27, 2007 04:21:06 PM
My aunt asked me to host a baby shower for my cousin's baby to be! It had to be the same day as Thanksgiving since all our family was already in the same house at the same time, so it was one busy day!

I made soft blankets and baby clothes and bibs and booties and toys and party favors and used them all for the centerpiece and decorations.

some of the embroidered onsies~

a ripple blanket~

It was also the top layer of the "cake."

As the activity, I asked our family to draw on quilt blocks that I'll later embroider or applique and piece together into a baby quilt! The mother's parents wrote some beautiful chinese characters too.  This one means "love."

Everything went really well and it was lots of fun!
I drew some inspiration from this forum, so thank you!
15  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 22 ENTRIES / Seasons of Change on: November 06, 2007 12:30:41 AM
Autumn leaves are most lovely this time of year and while it is fun to jump around and see the many colors of the leaves as they fall, I'm always reminded that the beauty does not last and you are always left empty and wanting.  But emptiness does not last but is there only long enough for us to feel the loss and miss nature's wonders and wait for the seasons to change.  We crave for more when we have nothing, and we crave for simplicity when we overflow with goodness.

Please enjoy...

This is my first big project and I had no idea how long it would take me.  I really challenged myself and my skills for this challenge, and I thank Craftster for the opportunity and inspiration. ^_^

(And sorry, for my first post, it took me some time to figure out the formatting)
