1  Re: Love your wedding? Then show off your photos here! in Weddings and Bridal Showers by michaelasmom on: June 05, 2006 01:08:00 PM
Just a few shots from my wedding.  I wish that I had one of my cake.  My cake topper was Mickey & Minnie Mouse, and my cake was in the shape of Mickey's head.  We got married in October, so we got to use my favorite fall flowers and had pumpkins for centerpieves ;-)

and my absolute favorite picture from the wedding, even if it was a candid shot

My father passed away in 1994, and we take flowers to the cemetary a couple of times a year.  For father's day the year after our wedding, I made his headstone flowers from the pew bows from my wedding.  To this day, that's my favorite of the flowers that we've taken to him.

2  Re: firefly/serenity swap in The Swap Gallery by michaelasmom on: February 02, 2006 08:23:01 AM
miyoko79 is so SHINY!!!!!

I came home yesterday to find this waiting in my kitchen....... the hubby almost opened it without me (he's a serenity fan too)

a wide shot of all the goodies... purple asian themed bag, gorgeous Inara necklace, really cool buttons, a photo collage, and a beautiful hand stitched sign that says "Kaylee's room"

please ignore the cat's butt - he has fallen in love with the silky bag and follows it from room to room

close up of the sign

close up of the Inara necklace and you can see the buttons in the corner

I am in awe of all of the crafty goodness.  I have had a really miserable couple of weeks, and this really made my day!!  THANK YOU!!

I also want to thank my swap partner for being patient with me.  I had to have my dog put to sleep last week, and it has really messed with my crafty mojo.  Now after recieving all of my lovelies, I think that I will finally be able to finish my swap items so that I can get them out to my partner.

3  Re: come one! come all! post pics of your tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by michaelasmom on: December 14, 2005 08:36:57 AM
My younger sister has Alopecia -- an auto immune deficiency disease that causes your hair folicles to reject your hair.  There are 2 types areata (where you lose your hair in patches) or totalis (where you lose all of your hair every where).  She has alopecia areata has been partially bald at different periods in her life, but has not really had too many 'baldy' periods (her name for it) in the last few years.  She is naturally very beautiful (and yes, I am biased) and wears almost no make-up, but she was really bothered by losing her eyebrows.  We must have seen 5 different aestheticians about tatooing her eyebrows back in, but we could never find someone that did a 'natural' enough job.  She finally decided that she would just pull her hats down further on her forehead until her brows came back in  Wink
She is a country girl and a barrel racer so luckily ball caps and cowboy hats make her life much easier.  She hasn't had a reoccurance since having my nephew, so the doctors think that maybe the surge of hormones that came with pregnancy may have put her alopeicia in a 'dormant' state.

anywhoo -- even with a medical reason she thought that the tattooed makeup looked way too fake.

here she is in all her natural glory  Grin

4  Pink = Bad ?? in Halloween Costumes by michaelasmom on: November 03, 2005 12:46:43 PM
My 4 year old was driving me nuts because every day she wanted to be something different.  Finally I told her that if she didn't pick something soon, Mommy wouldn't have time to make it.  (and I am not that crazy about the generic store bought variety, so I didin't want to have to buy her one)

So she said that she wanted to be a witch.  When I asked her what kind, she kept saying 'a pink witch.'  So I said "You want to be a good witch?"  She said no -- "I'm a bad witch, just pink"  She even had a evil little witchy laugh.  So, being the good Mommy that I am......

She looks mad in this one, but it shows off her cape  Wink

6  I'm a Halloweenie......... in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by michaelasmom on: September 15, 2005 12:15:06 PM
I love fall and really enjoy getting into the Halloween spirit.  The other evening I found some lovely orange beaded trim at Michael's, and it inspired me to find my halloween fabric and make a purse.  It has been a big hit, and I even have a couple of co workers asking for Christmas versions.  (Sorry about the photo quality -- I took them with a coworker's palm pilot)

7  Re: Crafty But Stupid: YOUR CRAFT RELATED INJURIES HERE! in Stitch And BOTCH by michaelasmom on: August 19, 2005 09:37:14 AM
so I managed to cut off about 6" of my hair today while I was cutting fabric. I didn't even notice! the fabric was almost the same color as my hair and I was just sort of spacing out..

when I stood up to go to the bathroom, and one of my pig tails just sort of hit the floor.. I was like.. hmm..

I have to relate a similar incident -- the unfortunate victim was my dog.  I was making one of those knotted edge fleece blankets and my dog was laying up against the fleece (it was cold so I guess he thought that it looked snuggly)  anywhoo, I was knotting the fringe that I had just cut when I kept noticing that there was ALOT of hair on the blanket.  Turns out that I managed to trim my dog's tail when I was cutting the fringe.  He's a lhasa apso and has long long hair on his tail -- when he is up and about his tail is curled up over his back -- but when he is sleeping it is all unrolled  -- I woke him up and when he stood up his tail was fine on one side, but eh other side was really short and kinda poofy in places.  Luckily, his groomer is my sister's best friend so I was able to get it fixed without having to tell the "see, I was making this blanket....." story too many times.

Now, Sir Jasper keeps a pretty healthy distance when I am crafting

9  Re: Joss Swap (Buffy/Angel) - Round 2! Gallery in The Swap Gallery by michaelasmom on: May 27, 2005 10:29:07 AM
The co worker that usually takes the pictures for me is a total Buffy geek also.  He has little mini metal buffy lunchboxes in his office.  I made him the angel investigations magnet also -- he was most excited.  It takes very little to make us state employees happy ;-)

The photos were printed onto large mailing labels and then I used the magents that came on the front of the phone books here at the office -- I just applied the labels.
