1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Portal Companion Cube Card Box - for a Geek-tastic Wedding! on: November 07, 2011 04:20:08 PM
Thanks for the comment. The template I used for the 8 corner pieces is here: http://momopeche.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/karen_portal_corner.jpg.

I couldn't find a template for the 12 edge pieces, so I had to make one myself through a trial-and-error process. Other than those pieces, it's pretty simple.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Portal Companion Cube Card Box - for a Geek-tastic Wedding! on: November 07, 2011 03:48:32 PM
For my brother's wedding, which was this past weekend, I made a Companion Cube card box (from the game Portal).
It took soooo much longer than I thought it would, but it was worth it in the end.

Everything you can see that is gray is just posterboard with acrylic paint. The hearts are cut out of a craft foam sheet.

The light gray pieces were really complicated, especially because I'm not very familiar with papercrafting. They are each made out of a single folded piece of posterboard. The corner pieces have 19 facets, and the edge pieces have 15. Here were my templates, so you can see how complex they were:

It went over really well! My brother and now-sister-in-law loved it, and a lot of the guests thought it was really cool (we were a geeky crowd).
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Upholstered Bohemian Trunk on: March 11, 2011 09:58:12 PM

While cleaning my room, I discovered that I had this old trunk sitting around. My dad and I made it together over a decade ago to house a doll, but I haven't used it in years. My dad died in 2004, so anything I can do to remember the brief time we had together is very welcomed - so I decided to revamp our chest! (Sorry for the phone pics - my digital camera didn't agree with rock climbing)

Before: A tired old pink.

After: Boho-style awesomeness! All it took was some fabric and a spray-on adhesive (which was a new venture for me; I highly recommend it).
I re-used the original brass hardware. The trunk is 21" long, for reference.

Detail shot of fabric:

I haven't decided what to use it for yet, but it'll definitely be a lovely addition to my sparse college apartment.

Awesome job! And yeah, pleather can be a pain to work with. Kudos to all the hand-sewing, that's amazing... I do everything by hand as well, but that's only because I don't have a machine and have never learned to use one!

Aw, that is adorable! You did a great job on the painting, it matches the real bird perfectly.

Awesome cake, I love the details with the ripples and creeping plant! It looks too good though, I wouldn't want to eat it!
