1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / DIY dress pattern help on: October 21, 2014 04:24:05 AM
I have a butterick pattern for a 50's wrap dress, but it never sits right (I'm an 18 top and 20-22 bottom)
I love the full skirt, so have made my own pattern for top of dress. I haven't yet sewn skirt to top(I'm in work) but I'm having trouble with the back of dress bodice.
I have put darts in, as they're needed, but it has two stickout lumps where darts end.
I can't think  of a way  around it, as I'm useless with pattern alterations.
The  front of bodice seems ok so far.
I'll take some pics later to show you where I'm at so far.
Help gladly appreciated

The wedding dress is stunning, simple yet beautiful. Though I'm partial to black and white wedding gowns. Love it.

Again, you look way prettier with dark hair Smiley

Is the girl in the pics the friend you made it for? she looks amazing.
I'm a fan of the vintage/pin-up look, and she really suits it. The dress looks fab on her.

Well done on making this fab dress!

I love this!
I'm a plus size myself, and would love a custom made corset, but they're sooooooo expensive to by. I wouldn't know were to begin making one.

Well done, beautiful!

Fantastic, I love this!
I too have been eyeing these on Etsy. I'm sure they are worth every penny! But alas, I too don't have that kind of money to spend on a coat.

Do you simply wing it, or use a pattern?
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sizing question for butterick 4790 wrap dress on: May 03, 2011 01:00:29 PM
I just tried making this myself, and was disappointed.

The top of the dress just didn't work very well. I have a higher waist than the waist of the dress turned out, and so the top was VERY baggy. I managed to adjust the front bodice a bit, to my waist level, but have NO idea how to fix the back, as it isn't straight across were it meets the skirt, it curves downward, so I can't find a way of doing it. Also the bodice  doesn't fit properly where it crosses under the arms. I guess I just don't have the right body shape for this (i'm a plus size and after seeing so many fab pics on plus size women thought it could be a good pattern to make) but I think I'm plus in all the wrong places *cry*
