21  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Extreme makeover - Hotel reception room edition on: December 14, 2008 07:09:51 AM
Pheew! After a year of planning, my department's Christmas party is finally over... We were 3 to organize it, and had to overcome a lot of obstacles... but we made it! All the stressing out and loosing sleep over details was well worth it. I wanted to cry when we got done decorating! HAHA

When we got there, there was nothing but a Christmas tree in a corner of the room (you can't see it in these pictures)

So... we turned this ugly hotel reception room:

Into this awesome (if I do say so myself) lounge bar!!!

We had rented LED spotlights that changed color throughout the evening... it looked GREAT!!!

We hung a couple hundred snowflakes from the ceiling, and the mural we hung in the back shows a snowy forest...

The "drapes" we hung are actually plastic table cover rolls...

It turned out great... now I need a break!!

Thanks for the suggestions! The plastic table covers might just be perfect! And they're so cheap too! Around 20$ for 300 feet is the best deal I found in my area so far... I will make sure to ask the hotel also if they could help us create the look we're going for... it was so simple but... I guess we hadn't thought of it!
24  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Dirt cheap chair cover alternative?? on: August 18, 2008 09:58:06 AM

I am planning my office's Christmas party. We decided on a "lounge bar" theme... in my mind, I have visions of great mood lighting, and comfy sofas...

Buuuuuut, this party is taking place in a rented reception hall in a hotel and all we have to work with are lousy ugly folding chairs... and a very small budget!

I have searched on the internet but disposable chair covers are still pretty much expensive since we need seating for about 120 people...

Does anyone have an idea of what we could do?

If you have any other decoration idea four a lounge vibe, feel free to give suggestions, they are more than welcome!

Thank you so much... I smell smoke, I think my brain is about to explode soon trying to figure this out!!

27  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Macro photo challenge: Cry me a river on: April 23, 2008 04:14:08 PM
This is my entry!

A while back I really got into imagining being teeny tiny and what the world around me would look like... So I decided to take pictures of things really close up, to give the impression of being in wide spaces... kinda like if I was a gnome or what have you (I don't really know the tiny people terminology) Hum... thank god this isn't an "express your ideas clearly challenge!" haha

Anyways, can't you just imagine yourself sitting by the side of the river, on the rocks on the left, and looking up at the beautiful mountains surrounding you? I wish I could...

Unfortunately, this is only a little puddle of water (just a few inches wide) on the bank of a river near where I live...

I would post a picture of a wider angle so you could see what it actually looks like but I read we can only submit one photo... would that screw up my entry??

Also if you notice... it looks like the shadows in the water are forming some sort of stenciled face... I thought that was pretty neat!

Well, hope you all think it's kinda cool   Smiley

I was inspired by stopthefacades post called I don't know what it's called, BUT I MADE IT ! (Sorry, I don't know how to post the link...)

I had this shirt that I used to love, because of the collar and details on it, but I didn't wear it anymore (euhm yeah, I forgot I owned it...)

But NOW!!! I love it! All it took were a few snips and a bit of lace around the bottom and on the shoulders and woohoo! Brand new piece of clothing! I love it!

Here's how it looked before:

When I bought the fabric, on the roll it said it was jacquard but I thought there had to be a pattern in it to be called that. I dunno. I would describe it as army material! ha! That's what it looked like to me!

But, since grocery shopping is a necessary evil, and my sister is getting her own appartment in January and will have to face the realities of being a true adult, I made her 4 reusable grocery / shopping bags. I painted 2 different designs with fabric paint and made 2 of each. My favorite part of the bags is the tags I made out of shrinky dink. Each bag has a tag with a different "quote" on it. I think they look pretty cool!  Cheesy
