1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Re: Overhauling a Plastic Boned Corset to Spiral Steel on: August 08, 2011 03:43:12 PM

Thank you so much! Luckily for me there are boning channels, and they appear to be twill. I'm going to start working on it soon.
2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Overhauling a Plastic Boned Corset to Spiral Steel on: August 08, 2011 03:00:11 PM
OK, so my good hearted cousin bought me a lovely over-bust corset at a RenFaire, we're the same size and everything, so she tried it on and gave it to me as a gift.

I'm a corset lover, and have a few of my own, all spiral steel boned. This one, however, is the dreaded PLASTIC boning, and being a plus size girl, I need the steel!

It's very bendy and doesn't tight lace like mine do.

So, is there any way you guys know of, in which I could preserve the original corset, but remove the plastic bones and insert new, spiral steel ones?
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: L.A.M.B Gwen Stefani inspired hat, help with pattern on: July 23, 2011 10:47:14 PM
Helllo Smiley

I know I am very late with this post, but, I loved all of ya'lls hats so much I made my own rendition as well. I followed the pattern, mostly, but instead of doing SC for the band, I did 8 rows of hdc and 2 rows of sc.

I like the way it came out, although I think sc might've been a better choice XD  I was going for chunky for winter with this hat.

Forgive the epic messy background XD

As you can see I did mine in Ravenclaw colors Smiley  and I plan on using the extra wide band to sew a Ravenclaw Crest patch on to it Smiley
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Is acrylic really that bad? on: July 02, 2011 11:01:00 PM
Acrylic is magic!

I'll admit, I am a bit yarn snobby, I absolutely refuse to work with red heart, unless it's a color way I can't get anywhere else. Although I have been noticing that their yarn has been getting softer!

I usually use I LOVE THIS YARN from hobby lobby. It's soooooo soft and the colorways are usually pretty good. I have trouble with Caron SS splitting on me, but it's not to big a deal for me, but I don't use it that often.

That is the most gorgeous embroidery I've ever seen! It's so pretty!    I just love the expression on his face, if that's what you'd call it on a flamingo.

Epic Kudos.

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / First Non-Beanie Hat! :D [From an AprilDraven Pattern!] on: April 25, 2011 08:30:37 PM
Hi All!  I just finished my first hat that wasn't a beanie!  Cheesy

I purchased AprilDraven's "Super Long Goth Hat" pattern from Annie's Attic http://www.anniesattic.com/detail.html?prod_id=81378.  I modified it a bit color wise!  It's HOT PINK and Teal! With the FPDC/BPDC border in black.

I had a fun time crocheting this!  I'm not sure if I'll be brave enough to wear it out and about on campus though!  Although my friends certainly got a kick out of it!  Cheesy

I plan to start making her fairy hat or gandalf hat next Cheesy

Thanks for the video April!  I will most definitely make this hat after I finish making your Super Long Goth Hat I got from Annie's Attic Cheesy

Thanks as always Fantasticmio!
10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Graphgan SC vs Tunisian on: April 17, 2011 05:12:32 PM
So, I've got all my yarn ready, my chart and everything, but now I've gotten stumped:

Does SC or Tunisian/Afghan Stitch generally come out better for a large sized graphed afghan?

I really want a big ol' afghan with a chart of the Harry Potter Ravenclaw House Crest with Ravenclaw vertically to the left of the chart placement wise.
