11  Re: Shop the Swap 46 **Discussion Thread** in New Swap Theme Ideas by HippieKender on: January 17, 2011 06:13:28 PM
I'm going to be adding a bunch of patterns to my shop. Most are baby/toddler sized (NB-3T I'd say).
Gotta get daughter in the bath, then take pics and get them listed. Smiley
I had bought them when DD was a baby (or maybe just a baby bump!) and now she is 5 and I never got around to making 90% of them.  Kinda sad...

edit: Here's the patterns I added. They are at the bottom of my shop.

12  Re: Quilts for Kids Quilt-along (Charity for Kids) in Craftalongs by HippieKender on: January 17, 2011 03:02:04 PM
I'm horrible! I've had this kit forever and am just now getting up the courage and time to make it. After 2 days I have the top finished! Now I just need to pick up batting (and learn to quilt... and learn how to bind it...).

My first quilt (top).

Hoping to pick up batting tomorrow. Joann's has batting 40% off right now. Also, sorry the pic is so dark. It's been snowing off and on all day, so the sun has been hiding.

I finally got tired of the cold seeping under the door of my pantry. I made myself an under-the-door, stay-put draft dodger/guard/blocker Cheesy
It had to go under the door because we are in and out of the pantry all day long. I didn't want to deal with putting a draft snake back in place over and over and over again!

It's made of fleece and dried corn. It doesn't match the kitchen, but it keeps that darn draft out! Wink
I posted more info and pics in their own thread: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=370008.0
I might make another to match the kitchen, now that I have a general idea of what I am doing Wink

14  Stay-put draft dodger in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by HippieKender on: January 13, 2011 10:05:06 PM
... or twin draft guard, or under the door draft blocker... or whatever you want to call it!  Cheesy
For some reason my pantry is FREEZING and there is a giant gap between the door and the floor. I have been thinking (for 2 years Roll Eyes ) that it needs a draft dodger to block the cold, but wanted something that would stay in place since we are in and out of the pantry all day long. I couldn't wrap my brain around how to make one of those draft dodgers that slip under the door... until today!  Suddenly, the light bulb went off and I was inspired! I had this finished in probably less than 30 mins (though I wasn't paying attention to the time).
Enough jibber-jabber. Here's pics:

Sitting on the floor, ready to be installed.

It just slips under the door.

Oliver was attacking it as I opened and shut the door. I guess it doubles as a kitty toy Wink

See? It blocks the draft very nicely!  Even Oliver approves.

I made it out of fleece and filled the tubes with dried corn.  Why?  No reason; it's just what I had sitting around. I bought dried corn to make heat packs as Christmas gifts.  It only comes in 50 lb bags, so I have tons left over. Roll Eyes  Plus I like the weight of it. It makes me feel like it is more likely to stay put and keep doing it's job: blocking those drafts!
It doesn't match my kitchen, but that's okay. It was my prototype, and now my toes don't freeze every time I walk near the pantry!
So what do you think? Smiley

15  Tie Dyed Hobo Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by HippieKender on: January 12, 2011 12:48:25 PM
I am very excited about this bag.  I've been carrying the same purse for a year and a half! I got it in a swap from an amazing partner and I love it to pieces, but after a year and a half I was ready for a new purse.
I bought this pattern off etsy and slowly worked on it over a few days, finally finishing it last night. I was encouraged by the Craft for ME craftalong and the Fake Swap craftalong.

I tie dyed the fabric before cutting out the pattern pieces.  I was hoping it would turn out darker, but I am still happy with it. There are 4 pockets on the outside and a TON of pockets on the inside. I kind of went pocket-crazy!

I was impatient and already put some of my crap in it. Wink
Here's the other side

And a close-up of the tie dye.

I was trying for a rainbow effect, can you tell?  Cheesy So, what do you think?

I found a new tie-dye technique and had to try it out!

It was fun to make, and to see the results when I was done. And best of all?  I made it for ME! Daughter wants to steal it, but I won't let her, ha ha!
I don't know what to do with it now.  Roll Eyes
I tie dyed another piece of fabric, but that's going to be the purse I promised myself. Grin

19  Tie Dyed Mandala in Dyeing: Completed Projects by HippieKender on: January 10, 2011 07:59:20 PM
I made a tie-dyed mandala today! I found this and just had to try it out!
It was supposed to be rainbow, but I got lazy and tried to mix the colors I had on hand (red, blue, yellow) instead of going downstairs to grab the other colors I needed. I'm still pleased with how it turned out.  I don't know what to do with it yet. It measures about 18x18.

What do you think?

Yay! I got my phone working again. Took 2 days and I lost all my contacts but it works! Hooray!
What does that mean? It means I can take pics again! (Silly camera is still broken) So here's what I am adding to my shop today.

Tatted earrings, the pattern is called Carnival.  I am posting them at half a point because these were the ones I made while testing the pattern and they are not perfect.
I'm off to post them in my shop then see if I can't figure out what's wrong with my camera. Smiley
