1  Re: MINI 12 Days Of Christmas Swap 2013 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by rlynn on: November 29, 2013 02:09:19 AM
So excited!  Smiley  It got kind of hairy there near the end trying to wrap everything up but I made the deadline and my box should reach Breegy by Wednesday! Smiley

I received!

There was a small tin that said open now!  It was filled with candy which I ate promptly! Heh!
Day 1: an amazing wood wax seal!! So cool!

Day 2: fabulous and funky leather feather earrings

Day 3: the sweetest bird ornament.  Seriously I showed it to Phil an he said. "Aww!" We all love this one!

Day 4: wrapped bangles (love, love, love! The blue one is pretty small but I think that's on purpose so Aria can wear it; if not well it fits her perfectly and she was happy to get one!). Smiley

Day 5: scrubbies!  These are crocheted with some sort of plastic netting which will make them perfect for scrubbing!

Day 6: supplies! buttons and twine! Drool....

Day 7: care bear stare!  Grumpy bear tee for Aria.  She is so in love with this!!!

Day 8: artwork for Aria!  Oh boy, she loves this!!!

Day 9: hat for me!!  Love the shape and color!

Day 10: felting kit!  Awesome!

Day 11: Crocheted Wall Organizer!  I may have 10 and 11 swapped, but I love them both.  Smiley

Day 12:  Floor Poof!  Aria has totally stolen this from me. :/  Heh.

Thank you so much breegy; we've loved everything!  Thanks to the organizers and a merry Christmas and happy soon to be new year to everyone!

4  Rogue and Wasp Cosplay for the wee one in Costumes: Completed Projects by rlynn on: September 24, 2013 12:28:34 PM
The 2nd annual Rose City Comic Con was just this past weekend.  My 5 year old daughter Aria decided on not one but TWO costumes.  Makes sense considering there are two days of comic con.  Her first request was Rogue and the second was Wasp from The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.  I'll provide links to my supplies and tutorials after each photo.

First up is Rogue.

I used Kwik Sew 3103 for the pattern.  I had to do a little color blocking to get that classic green/yellow Rogue look.  It was quite an adventure as I'd never worked with spandex before.  Thankfully, I have a serger and after buying some wooly nylon thread, it actually wasn't too bad to work with.    The spandex is Milliskin Shiny four way stretch and I got it from the Spandex House . I used the left overs to make her boot covers and gloves and headband.
The belt used to be a Men's large belt that I simply cut down.  I bought a belt buckle blank off an etsy shop and used duct tape to make the X-Men logo.  I considered using resin and really getting technical but I decided that this would enable me to change up her belt buckle for future costumes.  Resewing the buckle onto the belt was a cinch with my beautiful Bernina 350 PE.  Oh my goodness, I love that machine so much (Thanks, Craftster for the chance to play and then later buy the machine).
I couldn't find a bomber jacket pattern for the life of me so I ended up using Cali Faye Collection's DrewB Blazer pattern .  I simply cropped the design a lot to get the right look.  The jacket was made from this weird faux leather fabric.  I liked it because comic cons can get kind of hot and I wanted something light weight.  I made up a felt patch for it and sewed it on by hand.
The boots are simple knee high boots that I covered with spandex boot covers using this tutorial I found online.  The gloves I made simply tracing her hand on some paper.  I figured the spandex would stretch enough to not need little finger gussets.  The white hair was bought from I Kick Shins on Etsy.   I didn't want to use messy hair paints or harsh chemicals.

The best part?  She had a blast getting so much attention.  We entered her into the 14 and under costume contest at the end of the night.  She got up on that stage in front of a huge crowd of people all by herself.  And she took second in the contest.  She was beyond the moon to have placed.

Next up is Wasp.

I used a Cali Faye Collection pattern again.  This time the Simply Chic Dress pattern.  I obviously left off the collar and did some color blocking.
Head set:
I used two push lights and simply drilled holes in them to stick little dowel rods into them.  I spray painted them yellow and added black detailing.  They were then attached to a black headband.
I used the same boots and gloves from the Rogue costume.  Wings were made from thick wire, nylon hose, and spray paint.

Aria insisted on cutting her hair for the Wasp costume for authenticity.  Like the day before, she got a lot of attention and loved every second of it.  The best part of the second day though was running into the head writer for The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon.  He called us over to his table and asked me to take a photo of the two of them together on his phone.  He told Aria how he wrote the show and that his favorite character was Wasp.  She was awe-struck and stood there smiling at him shyly.  Now she wants to write him a letter.  heh.

update (9/27): Since we got that picture, Aria has been saying daily that she wants to send him a letter.  Today while watching his cartoon, she drew him a picture.  I looked all over the internet looking for an address that fans can send him things.  Finally, I found his twitter account and told him that Aria AKA Wasp from Rose City Comic Con really wanted to send him something and asked him if there was an address for fans to send such things.  He sent me an address immediately via a PM and said that I made HIS day.  What a completely down to earth and amazing man.  He earned himself some lifelong fans in this household.  Smiley

We've already bought our tickets for the Emerald City Comic Con and Aria is trying hard to think of who to go as.  Since its only 6 months away and we plan on going the third Rose City Comic Con next year, I may try to steer her towards something more simple...like Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service.  Heh.  We'll see if she goes for it.

I feel like such a heel that I've waited so long to post the wonderful package that Jemimah sent me.  I am so in love with what she sent.

First up...this beautiful and versatile button cowl.  I think I'll have to add it back to my pinterest so I can get more in different color combos because this one is just too fabulous.  I need more.  Wink

Both sides showing

Mostly the mustard yellow showing

Mostly the print showing

Fabulous, right!?!

If that weren't more than enough on its own...Jemimah also sent this artwork for Aria's wall.  <3 <3

Thank you so much for such a great package of goodies!  Smiley

I received from artista!

She sent along a cute little onesie for my niece.

The showstopper was this artwork she made.  When I originally listed artwork inspired by my daughter, I meant an artists rendition of my daughter's image.  Artista thought I meant something inspired by Aria's artwork.  I rather liked the idea as she interpreted it.  She had a looksie through my blog that I keep about Aria and did a piece based on a quote from when my daughter was younger.  The post is here if you want to see what Artista was basing her piece on.  http://othersnippetsofwisdom.blogspot.com/2013/08/ethereal-bacon.html

And here is the artwork.

Aria was thoroughly excited and it will be going on her wall as soon as we get a frame for it.

Thank you!!

As promised the third claim I received.  Spikefan claimed me for tiny crocheted animals for Aria.
She really outdid herself.  Holy mackerel, Aria is going to be so excited when I give these to her!  She still has and loves the little piggies that Spikefan made her many moons ago!  I think she'll get a kick out of knowing that these were made by the same person.  Smiley

And just to give you perspective on how small these little critters actually are...all EIGHT fit into the palm of my hand.  Please note that I have fairly small hands at that.  Wink

Thanks Spikefan!

I received 3 fabulous packages earlier this week. I'm posting 2 of 3 of them and I will get the 3rd up later tonight.

Kartiana claimed me for potholders and sent me these two beauties.  Seriously she mentioned in the discussion thread if two of them would be okay and I'm thinking with the detail, one would have sufficed.  They are gorgeous and I love them.

Spikefan claimed me twice: once for washcloths and once for tiny crocheted animals.  This is the picture of the washcloths.  They are perfect.  Aria has already claimed one as her own.  heh. Of course that is probably because I didn't show her the crocheted animals.  I hid those promptly which is why I don't have a picture of them in my camera at the moment.  I will take some tonight and get them up.  Spikefan went nuts on whipping up some fabulous little critters for Aria.  She is going to flip when she finally sees them.
