1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: The random soapy babble thread on: November 18, 2010 02:38:35 AM
Well, I now live within 30-60 minutes of Nature's Garden and Wholesale Supplies Plus! I stopped a lot of soapmaking because shipping was getting really expensive, but now that I can pick these up...GET READY.

I'm jealous! Smiley Finding supplies locally is a pain in my butt, and I don't want wait a week just to get friggin avocado oil or a single scent!  Then again, I would be completely poor from the frequent shopping trips!

Have fun!

I LOVE this!  I'm watching my way through all the episodes for the eleventy billionth time, and was just thinking about what quotes I would love to see stitched/embroidered.   Grin

I would be ALL for the Spaced cross stitch challenge!

Holy cow!  Those are awesome!  I would kill for a pair right now (so freaking cold here).

Off to plot my own pair.....

I'm currently working on this blanket for my nephew: Luca Cabled Baby Blanket

I'm a fairly new knitter, and I find it to be a nice, easy project.  Smiley

I showed the husband this, and he has now demanded I do something similar (we both use the phrase waaaay too much).

Awesome job!

So simple and pretty!  I love everything about it (and the frame is perfect too)!
8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Re: Soap making tutorial! on: September 10, 2008 12:42:37 AM
Thanks Tracerace for putting together this tutorial!  I have a few tips to add, if you don't mind.  Smiley

-Lye can be bought at Lowes or Home Depot.  Red Devil unfortunately stopped selling their pure lye, but I use lye from a company called Roebic.  Here's a link to the image: http://www.make-biodiesel.org/catalyst/images/roebic.jpg

-If you decide to use a PVC pipe as a mold, be sure to either line it with freezer paper, or put vaseline on it liberally.  If you don't (or don't put enough), the soap gets stuck, and you start saying really bad words- ask me how I know.  If you do have stuck soap, freeze it overnight, and the next day run warm water over the pipe, and bang away until the soap comes out.  Smiley

-And if you're wondering what to do with a batch of unscented soap, try your hand at either making laundry soap, or rebatching the soap.  It's all about experimentation, which why soapmaking is so fun!

No problem.  Cheesy  It's all about what you're comfortable using.
10  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Bacon scent? on: September 03, 2008 10:14:59 PM
Thanks for the link- it's definitely getting bookmarked.  Smiley

I was SO close to finding an actual bacon scent yesterday- found a candle supply company that sold a bacon scent, but unfortunately it wasn't body safe.  Sad  I am definitely looking into the Hickory White Pepper Smoke scent.  I think that'll be my best bet.

While I know that bacon fat won't produce the best soap in the world, I am curious as to how it will turn out.  I would never consider using it for commercial purposes, but my guy friends can be the guinea pigs.  Cheesy
