231  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Craft Night 2: Candle making!! on: July 12, 2009 08:10:07 PM
So my friend Becky and I had another craft night.  It was so interesting that my house mate Melissa joined us after seeing our creations!!  Grin  This craft night we made really cute candles, yet again I forgot to take my camera out when Becky was still here but I do have shots of mine and Melissa's candles.

This is the first candle I made and I ended up giving it to my house mate Dom... the lines on the bottom are a bit screwy but other wise I like the way it came out! Its in a jam jar!

This is the second candle I made its three shades of orange/pink and I used a container that used to have a store bought candle in it!

This is the side view of my favorite candle I made this evening. In a glass container I got at a dollar store.
Top View!!

These are my house mate's candles, cooling off in our freezer!!
232  UNITED STATES / New Jersey / Re: Thrift Stores in Middlesex County? on: July 08, 2009 11:12:46 PM
The good will that was spoken of is in East Brunswick on Route 18 (I do believe it is south, past the chili's and sams and stuff)... Its in the same shopping complex as an all you can eat sushi place (which is quite tasty, good for lunch).  It has clothing, videos, books, and "household goods".  The house hold goods section usually isn't good for furniture (though occasionally they have some), however they have awesome glasses/dishwear/picture frames/other stuff that is good for crafting.  I actually got really cheap yarn there the last time i went and a vintage train case the time before that!!

Otherwise.. there is a small church thrift shop in highland park on route 27 that the second reformed church has.. its really tiny but items are realllly cheap.

Good luck, I hope more ppl post suggestions so I can figure out some more thrift options!
233  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Cd/DVD Binders on: July 06, 2009 10:29:27 PM
This is my first post ever, yay.  I'm a long time lurker but I thought that this was finally worth posting.

My friend Becky and I both had the problem of dealing with Cd/Dvd storage and these wimpy Cd cases that stored like only 30 cds (not to mention were also too pricey for what they were).  So we ordered a whole bunch of 4 disk, double sided cd pages on the interweb and decided to buy some binders.  We went to all these business supply places and couldn't find a single binder that would fit these pages (guess we should have looked into this first lol).  Anyway, while we were looking I spotted some binder clips and then the coggs started turning and we ended up collaborating on a pair of awesome cd binders that hold a whole bunch of cds and cost us next to nothing!  Here are some pics of mine.. didn't brake out the camera while becky was still here:

we measured cardboard and cut it out of beer boxes (yay recycling, yay free).. then we put this cardboard on the binder rings (these were like 2 bucks for like 9, so we had more than enough)

we cut out fabric and made a cover for the cardboard (kinda like book sox..if you know what those are)

Becky and I both used fabric recycled from something else... Becky used a brown dress that was too small for either of us and I used a fabric shower curtain that I had used to separate my room but had gotten holes in it. (yay free) Though you can't really tell in the pictures, its burgundy with black swiggles all over it... and a bit shimmery (hence the reflection of the flash in the pictures).

So yea... essentially this project cost the both of us a total of $1.
