Well, my first plan was to use glow in the dark yarn for the tail end, but having failed in my attempts to find glow in the dark yarn, I started searching for lights I could insert like those glowworm dolls used to have.
This project was inspired by the last beach shindig my local browncoats went on.
We made this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/Lost_Thought/serenicastle2.jpg

and it was leading up to dragoncon I was looking back at the pictures, specifically this pic, when the idea hit me...

This project came out much better than my first attempt at a jayne hat!  http://www.angelfire.com/tx4/artcat/browncoatcostumes/x-masHATZ.jpg  (the oddly sized one is the one I knitted)

Ni Hao! (Hello!), some of yall may know me as I understand there is a large underground browncoat community here, but for those that don't I'm artcat, for those that do, yes that artcat.

Anyways, because of the persistant insistance of several crafty browncoats out there, I was strongly encouraged to come here and share my most recent impulsive project.  If I dont get this right the first time please be patient with me this is my first post here!

Meet Serenity:

And just like the ship does on the show, her tail end lights up!
More pictures can be seen here.  I'm new so I cant post pics here yet, the pics at this link include pieces before I joined them together http://www.angelfire.com/tx4/artcat/knitted_serenity/

In the insanity leading up to dragoncon, my brain came up with the idea of knitting a firefly class ship, the idea took root in my head and well I had to knit one. I was good, despite strong urges to start this project I held off till dragoncon was over, pondering ways to do it with limited knitting skills.

over 14 hours total went into this, one skein of white yarn, acid base dye (gray), and some led battery powered motion sensative lights.

Because of the addition of lights and the fact that if the lights die I want to be able to replace them, the rear end of the ship is held in place with stitching that is finished with a bow tie.  The stuffing was snagged from a recliner that was overstuffed and uncomfortable (its much more comfy now!).

I took notes, I'm in the process of trying to make sense of said notes now, so eventually assuming I can figure out what I wrote I will be posting those notes.  For anyone impatient and desperate to have one, what I did was print out the paper model version of Serenity and measure and calculate., well and occassionally just eyeball it.

Originally I hoped to felt it too, buut having never felted anything, and being relatively ok with how it turned out I decided against felting.

Anyways sorry for the long post and I hope yall like it!
