12  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Crafting my sons lunchbox, at least trying to. on: October 04, 2007 09:44:03 PM
Ahhh zwaalie!  my mom used to shape bears out of rice, and give little bits of carrot for the nose and something else for the eyes.  when i got older she's write notes explaining everything--the broccoli was its habitat, etc.

i miss lunchboxes!  and i now miss my mom!  Sad  i went to boarding school and now i'm in college, so i've been living away from home for about 6 years already, but every once in a while--especially around laundry or food time, or if i'm sick--i miss her so much, hahah!  so know, mothers, that your efforts do not go unappreciated. Smiley

He does look fabulous!  I hope he gets well soon!!!  He sounds like he has an amazing sense of humor.

I agree with what everyone else has said, I think he shoul dget a bunch in different colors.  If he's feeling "punky," he can have a mostly skin-colored hat with a black stripe down the middle in eyelash yarn to look like a mohawk...or rastafarian dreadlocks..go blond or brunet...haha the possibilites are endless!

16  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Post your meatloaf recipes! on: August 15, 2007 06:08:39 PM

i was so intrigued by the idea of meatloaf i tried to make some last night...i guess that explains why the thing wouldnt stick together!  i also forgot completely about any sort of stuffing.  more or less it was basically cooked hamburger meat and some ketchup and i mashed it into a pan and tried to cook it further.

i'll stick to shrimp 'n grits and pecan pie until i am feeling courageous again

oops, sorry y'all, i was out of town for a while but now i'm back!

i just have to say, thank you SO UNBELIEVABLY MUCH for all the tips.  they are good friends of ours, and when they came over we used to just bake a plain chicken, salted & peppered.  that is IT, because we were so afraid of what we could/couldn't put in the food!  the new advice and ideas have been so incredibly helpful and i really can't thank y'all enough!

i've been doing a lot of research now on their allowed diets, and actually my dad and i have been recruited to make a bat mitzvah cake for one of the daughters.  we're doing a rice-flour pound cake, but like 5 thin layers of it, each layer separated by chocolate and something else (i have no idea, but my dad is a pastry chef and knows what he's doing), to keep it moist.  i've noticed that dryness is a problem with eating GF foods, so we're trying to combat that as much as possible.

thank goodness they're not allergic to chocolate!!!  i would DIE if i were allergic to chocolate, probably literally because i wouldn't be able to stay away from it.

ok, maybe it's because i'm from the south, but i have never in my life heard of people actually eating it.  i've only read and heard horror stories so i thought this thread was a joke...but i guess i 'll give it a shot!  the recipes look good, anyway, but i have a question, what should the consistency of meatloaf be?  am i right in saying that basically it's just a bunch of hamburger meat that you've already cooked that you mash into a doughy consistency with egg/honey/etc. then you bake it?  so do you serve it in slices, like bread?
